Gontinuous Campaign for better local Roads 8, Constantly vigilant regarding Taxes and Expense of Government 9, Educate our teen-agers by precept and example concerning the American way of life, : 10. Work for the betterment of our community _ 11. Improved highway to Grass Valley, eliminate bottlenecks 12. Make the Nevada County Nugget a papes, for the people ‘Nevada Cou,y’s oldest but long sleeping industry, Gold Mining is at long last showing signs of awakening. One of the incidents that has caused more conversation and interest was the recent discovery of the rich vein on Deer Creek in Nevada City near’ the new Freeway. Search for title to this find is about complete and there is promise that some action may be taken on this matter very soon. We attended a meeting in Grass Valley of the Nevada County Historical Society, last Thursday evening and listened enraptured for one whole hour to: a lecture by a man who is experienced in the Gold business. He is a working miner and very forcefully brought out the fact that there is still wiorking s gold left in our hills and mountains around here. The hydraulic mining operations at Folsom continue and they operate at a profit. Almost every day visitors come into the Nugget office and enquire about the prospects for Gold here. Calls have come in from far away states for stories about the Gold in our County. We tell them that we know about it and come spring it can be that a lot of us will head for those hills and get in a good look just ahead of the * expected influx of visitors from afar. , Thursday evening we talked to an old operator who is now moving new equipment on to a lease » up near Alleganey. He plans to do Hydraulic Suction. mining’and has invested quite a sum in his rig. He tells us that he has already produced paying quantities of Gold from his river bed claim and in addition he has found Platinum in paying quantities.
