‘Nevada Cou,y’s oldest but long sleeping
industry, Gold Mining is at long last showing
signs of awakening. One of the incidents that
has caused more conversation and interest was
the recent discovery of the rich vein on Deer
Creek in Nevada City near’ the new Freeway.
Search for title to this find is about complete
and there is promise that some action may be
taken on this matter very soon. We attended
a meeting in Grass Valley of the Nevada County Historical Society, last Thursday evening
and listened enraptured for one whole hour to:
a lecture by a man who is experienced in the
Gold business. He is a working miner and very
forcefully brought out the fact that there is still wiorking s gold left in our hills and mountains around here. The hydraulic mining operations at Folsom continue and they operate at a
profit.
Almost every day visitors come into the Nugget
office and enquire about the prospects for Gold
here. Calls have come in from far away states
for stories about the Gold in our County. We
tell them that we know about it and come spring it can be that a lot of us will head for those
hills and get in a good look just ahead of the

I would like to point out an
inequity of which our city
councilmen are aware but which
they say they cannot do anything about, Namely I wish to
show the inequity of the present.
‘Charge for water in the city ofGrass Valley and I presume’
alsoin Nevada City as she also.
has the flat rate system,
Let me show this inequity by .
a series of illustrations,
1, Mr. A, is an elderly bachlor still lf in his family
home, Mr, B, has an acre of
ground and a family of six
children, He owns an automatic
washer which isin constant use,
He also goes in for formal
gardens,
Mr, A*s water bill fs exactly
the same as Mr, B‘s
2. Mr. A and. his wife live in
their own homé on a fixed income, They take ell their wash

Inone.apartment {fs a family of
” Six, In the other paratment is
a family of seven, Both families have automatic washers
that are in almost constant use,
_ There is also a lawn and some.
Mr, and Mrs, A pay just as
much for water as Mr, B does
for his two families of eleven
3. Mr, A has purchased an older

security pension, The apartments are small so he rents
mostly to elderly pensioners,
Mr, B has a lar e four plex

RENTED OR VACANT,
I am told that meters would

itead they are also expensive,
This does not change the inequity of the system, Mr, A {is
still paying for water he does
not use, And Mr, B is getting
a huge income break and the

Ido believe there are probably
more Mr, B's there are
Mr, A's, But why hurtthe little

To The Editor Suice aoe
The first thing I want to do is
tothank you all for the nice
presents I received. And the
cards and letters I received, I
am sorry thatI could not answer
you, Ihad the misfortune to
go to the hospital on the 19th
of December~-and I was in until
the ad of January, But I will
send you all: belated MERRY
CHRISTMAS and aHAPPY NEW
YEAR!
Ialso wantto thank my Doctor :
and the nurses, They were
~ pretty wonderful, anybody who:
thinks the nurse has an easy
job, I want toput them straight,
They do everything for: the
patient to ease their pain, and
believe me it is not easy,
There is always some one who
trys to make it tough for them
but they consider the source
and take it with a smile, I
’ heard a certain party say that
~allurses are payed to much, All
I can say is he*s NUTS!
They have one of the:hardest
jobs there: is and believe me
they earn every cent of it and
ifIhad my way they would get
twice asmuch, I wouldn't have
the job for a‘hundred bucks a
day. So don't deny the ladies.
in white what they are
receiving,
I want to thankyou all again
for the best Christmas I have
had in my 80 years, One I
will never forget. Good Bye and
God Bless You All, :
