water bond —
vote passes
Nevada City voters approved
a bond issue of $600,000 by 71.3
per cent with almost half of the
registered voters going to the
polls Tuesday.
The vote was 376 yes and 151
no for a bonded indebtedness
of $600,000 with 527 voting.
The city council will use the
$600,000 to build a completely
new water treatment plant,
water storage, new distribution
system for the city with ameter
on each service.
With the money from the bond
sale the city will apply for federal and/or state grants to
complete the $1,435,000 total
project. Any such grants require matching funds from the
city and the bond money will
fulfill this requirement.
The city has been told by the
California Department of Public Health that the city's water
system must be upgraded to
serve more fully treated water.
Passage of the bond issue is
the first major step towards
better water for Nevada City
residents
