(Bizz) Johnson, whose mountainvalley district contains approximately half of California‘s forest lands, will participate in next weeks National Conference on Land and People. Secretary of Argiculture Orville Freeman invited the California Representative to join inthe Washington Conference. "“TheDepartment of Agriculture has be en working with the President and his advisors to develop a comprehensive land and water program to meet'the needs of the people,” Secretary Freeman told Congressman Johnson in extending the invitation, "We now are ata point where we want to consult with a group of well-informed and interested people as we seek to further develop ways to make better use of land and water." Congressman Johnson, who had served on President Kennedy’s Natural Resources Advisory Committee, said the threefold purpose of the conference will be: 1, Todiscuss our changing needs for the products of land and water in relation to our production potentials, 2. Toconsider the human andcommunity adjustments that are involyed for rural . America. 3. To consult together on the opportunities available to us to find vital new uses for land and water in forests, wildlife, open space and recreation. Key leaders from all sections of the nation have been invitedto participate in the conference which will be keynoted by Secretary Freeman, who states: "We must seek all ways to up-date our agricultural economy. A key part of this effort isto develop the most practical and efficient use of land resources.
