NEVADA CITY ARTIST Bob Gilberg is shown here preparing his newest and
perhaps most unusual one-man show, which will start Saturday at. the
Nevada City Artists' Gallery on Commercial St. The show will consist of
about 50 "assemblages", each one composed of strips and panels of Gilberg's earlier work. As "retrospective " art, Gilberg's assemblages represent a new idea. Similar displays by Gilberg held recenty at Shasta
College and in Sacramento were highly praised by critics. Gilberg, who
moved to Nevada City in 1946, is one of Northern California's best
known and best respected artists.

Revival Try
By Stu Flansburg
In an attempt to lift the Nevada
City Chamber of Commerce from
the doldrums of lethargy and
apathy, president Alice McGee
has slated a board of directors
election to take place sometime
within the next two weeks.
Seven ofthe 11 board posts are
to be filled, with four holdover
members remaining.
President McGee said that this
will probably be the last attempt
to put the cha mber in working
order. If increased interest and
cooperation is not shown on the
part of the new directors and
member merchants, plansto permanently disband will be carried
out.
Talk of discontinuing the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce
began last August when board
member Tom Yost facetiously
suggested that they disband because of apathy on the part of the
directorsand people.
However, response from other
directors indicated a serious interest in the suggestion. '
As a result, President McGee
called a special meeting to discuss the idea, but lack of interest
was further pointed up when only
five of the 11 directors appeared
---six are needed to make a
quorum. ,
By unanimous action, the five
present ordered a halt toall
chamber expenditures and went
on record not to be field responsible for any further debts incurred
by the Chamber, its officials or
members. ;
Following this.action, various
Nevada City groups strenously
-. opposed the shut-down and offered

of Christmas. "
Noble told the Nugget he hoped
citizens would not sign the peti—
tion--and if they have signed it,
that they will withdraw their
names, He said he has spoken with
several other ministers in this
area who substantially agree with
his view point. The petition is
available for signature at several
local real estate offices.
The full statement issued by
Noble follows:
"During this season when we
have been singing praises to God
and: echoing the angels’. message
of good will to all men, we Christians inNevada County are faced
with a situation which is indirect
opposition to the message of
Christmas. This is the petition
which is being circulated to repeal the Rumford Act.
