NC school enrollment
is up from last year
Enrollment in Nevada City
-schools was up slightly to 901
at the end of December.
Enrollment on the same date
a year ago was 894, Supt. Dan
Woodard added, so the new figure represents an increase of
seven students. The average
daily attendance (ADA) for December was 888.
The Nevada City school
district has received tentative .
approval of $700 for books under
the Title I (federal grant) program, Woodard reported. The
board authorized payment of $3,236 for library materials and
$2,610 for audio-visual materials from the Instructional Ma‘terials Center in Auburn. The
payments cover materials for
ss henna
the 1970-71 school year.
The board authorized a trustee
election on April 20, for two
trustees to be elected to the fiveman board, The terms of Harriet
Hume and Jerry Christie expire
this year. They did not state
Wednesday evening whether or
not they intend to run again for
the positions they now hold on
the board, ;
In other action Woodard received verbal approval to test
fourth, sixth and eighth graders.
He said he would give the board
more information and details on
the testing when he has received
data from the state.

a motion to that effect. .
However, the supervisors did
not decide what services the hospital will render and how much
they will cost local taxpayers
in light of the Medi-Cal crisis.
Statistics showing the current
costs at the hospital and costs
of alternate types of operation
will be presented next Tuesday.
One of the possibilities is retention of Nevada General as

The financial crisis resuits
from the state cutback in MediCal payments, The county consequently is picking up the difference at present, which could
mean a deficit in hospital hooks
of $150,000 or more by
30.
Legislation being proposed at
the suggestion of Nevada county
officials would free restricted
county funds for use in covering hospital deficits if the super-.
visors so choose. Road funds
