WHEN HYDRAULIC mining was legal, as shown in this photo, a force of water washed away
hillsides, The dirt and rocks were moved into a sluice where the gold was captured. The remains, tons of dirt, was moved into rivers, and sent to the valleys below. This brought an end
to hydraulic mining.
