LOOKING DOWN from Bullards Bar Dam offers this fine
view. Water from the spillway crashing to the bottom throws
a fine mist into the air which resembles clouds. The dam
is near completion, the road over the dam is still closed.

A little water in the lobby
-*
THE STORM finally ended Wednesday afternoon, allowing water to recede from the lobby of the .
Rough and Ready Post Office, one of several buildings in the Golden Empire which got damp.
The water, shown on the floor here, endangered boxes filled with Operation Cookie cans, but
they were moved to a higher and drier spot. The Cookie shipment was taken to the
R & R office because the lady in charge of mailing them lives in Rough and Ready.

The black horse, graying with
the years, would have been well
over 100 years old if his age
were reckoned in human years,
according to his owner Mfrs.
Agnes Lolmaugh of Grass Valley. He was born in 1933, and
died December 1969, making
him 36 years-old by horse
standards, He was buried in an
alfalfa filled grave on a Penn
Valley Ranch,
Mrs, Lolmaugh, an ayid
horseback rider, received Black
Diamond as a birthday gift from
her husband some 30 year's ago.
‘The horse and his owner covered many -trails in those years,
but in. past months Mrs, Lolmaugh said she let Black Diamond -"tell me" when the ride
was over.
Several generations of chil9 dren fed the ‘saddle horse tidbits from their lunch baskets as
they passed the Lolmaugh resi~ dence on their way to school.
He looked for his little friends,
and asked them for these handouts in a “horsey sort of way",
according to Mrs. Lolmaugh.
Black Diamond knew the sound
of a lawn mower and it had a
special meaning to him. He relished the. tasty green morsals
that néighboring gardeners
brought in-response to his
neigh, plainly asking for the
lush green trimmings.
The horse was a frequent
wanderer on the Lolmaugh patio
~ and often helped himself to food
from a table set there. Henever
failed to whinny a welcome when
the family. came home according to his ownér.
