Mary Ellen Campbell, 76,
passed away January 7, 1959, at
Miners Hospital. She was a memlber of one of the oldest mining
and ranching families in this area.
She was a sister of. County Supervisor J. C. Coughlan.
Rosary was said at Mr. Coughlan’s home in North Columbia,
Friday. and a funeral] mass was
held Saturday, January 10, at St.
Patrick’s Church in Cherokee.
The North San Juan Catholic
Cemetery was the place of burial. Rev. Dauiel Minogue officiated at the services. Bergemann
Funeral Chapel handled the arangements.

Grass Valley Native
Of Early ’60’s Dies
Belle Nathan, native of Grass
Valley and chartre members of
Aurora Chapter No. 40, Order of
Eastern Star, Grass Valley, died
last Wednesday, January 14, 1959,
at San Francisco. She was a
daughter of early day Grass
Valley pioneers, Benjamin and
Susan Nathan, but for many
years had lived in San Francisco. Miss Nathan, despite her
97 years, was alert and active.
She maintained a great interest
in Nevada County always. Bereaved are two nieces and three
nephews: Denna Isaac, Hilda Na,than, Dr. Sylvan Haas, Sigmund
Neuhaus and Lewis Edwards, all
residing in the Bay Area. Funeral
services were held last Sunday,
January 18, 1959, in the Halstead
and Son Chapel in San Francisco,
with committal in the Bay Area,
George S. Partington
Rites Held January 16
Funeral services were held last
Friday, January 16, 1959, for
George S. Partington, age 72
years. A native of the Isle of
Mann, Mr. Partington was an
employee of the North Star and
Empire mines for 40 years. Services were held at HooperWeaver Mortuary Chapel. The
Rev. Harry Leigh-Pink of Emmanual Episcopal Church officiated, and burial was made in
Greenwood Memorial Gardens.
Mr. Partington died in Miners
Hospital in Nevada City, Calif.,
on January 12 ,1959, after a week's
illness.
Mr. Partington was the husband of Madge Partington of
Grass Valley; father of Justin
and Robert Partington, both of
Grass Valley; Lewis Partington
of Rosesville, Placer County;
Mrs. Lydia Nobs of Utah, and
Mrs. Eileen Earhart of Santa
Clara, and brother of Robert and
Louis Partington, both of the Isle
of Man
Grass Valley Resident
Takes Own Life
Frank Rav Peters. a resident
of the Grass Valley area since
last October, living on the lower
Colfax Road, took his own life
last Wednesday. The body was
discovered Sunday.
Funeral services have been arranged for today (January 22)
and will be held at HooperWeaver Mortuary Chapel. Burial will be made in Elm Ridge
Lawn Cemeter, Grass Valley.
