BANK OF AMERICA» NATIONAL TRUST ANDO SaviNas ASSOCIATION + Mama « eFOERAL DEPOSIT INSURANCE CORPORATION GRASS VALLEY --"An exciting interview with new sound..” T his was the description of one recent listener of THE CLEBANOFF STRINGS, the instrumental ensemble which will appear for the second program of the 196162 season of the Twin Cities Community Concert Association at 8:15 p.m. Saturday evening in the Veterans Memorial Building, Grass Valley. Conductor-founder H erman Cleabanoff has taken the ingredients of 16 strings, piano, accordion, percussion, and harp, and prepared a musical dish intended to delight the most critical of ears, “In 1957, when Clebanoff originated the group, it was a daring experimental move omhis part, because this type of chamber ensemble, though popular for centuries on the Continent, was all but unknown in this country. The debut of these twenty top instrumentalists with Clebanoff as conductor and . solo violinist in Chicago was received with immediate and overwhelming enthusiasm: "As fine a string orchestra as can be heard these days."(Chicago Daily 3 News). Born in Chicago, Director . Chebanoff began his musical . training as a violinist at the age of five, making his recital debut two years later, Joining the Chicago Symphony Orchestra at the age of 20 as its youngest member, he subsequently became concertmaster of the I1linois Symphony Orchestra under Izler Solomon. As soloist with this orchestra in Chi-cago and ontour, his success with press and public warrented a recital, which he + + + Ruth Skoverski, who is chairman for the March of Dimes drive for the Camptonville area, is making a house canvass, Contributors who may have been missed should contact her, gave in Chicago to cheers such as Claudia Cassidy’s“The spark that makes people want to listen", Herman Clebanoff made his conducting debut in New Orleans as a protege of Maestro Massimo Freccia. Following this, he returned to Chicago as concertmaster of the N, B, C, Orchestra, simultaneously developing his interest in chamber music through appearances with the Pro Musica Trio. Feeling a need for a type of instrumental ensemble which in size and type of music played would fall somewhere between the traditional small chamber ensemble of three to six members and the regular symphony orchestra, he organized the Clebanoff Sinfonietta, which subsequently became the Clebanoff Strings. Thé unique sound of the Clebanoff Strings is probably best known through the nine hit recordings the group has made for Mercury Records. a np MILE HIGH CITY Is offering a special rate of $1.75 a person for Chaperoned Youth Groups such as, the Future Farmers of America, High School students, etc., and will assist in arranging for activities in Denver. @=One block from each of the bus depots @ =-Center of the main stores and theaters @ -Across the street from the Brown Palace hotel @ ~Parking garage adjacent, 24-hour service 100 MODERN and COMFORTABLE ROOMS with TV and radio available PHONE: KEystone 4-239!
