Some Workers
Due Refunds
On Insurance
About four million dollars will
be refunded to California wage
earners who overpaid their disability insurance premiums last
year and who apply for their
refund by July, Peter Weinberger, director of employment,
estimated today.
Persons who worked for two or
more employers during the year
may have had too much deducted because each employer,
as required by law, made a
withholding for disability insurance, If the wage earner's total deduction for this purpose
exceeded $74 for the year, he
is entitled to a refund of the
excess from the state.
Such refunds, however, are not
automatic. Persons entitled to
them must complete and file the
necessary claim form with the
Department of Employment, 800
Capitol Mall, Sacramento 95814,
postmarked not later than July 1,
1968. This form may. be obtained at any Department of Employment office, or by writingto

Activities
A recent rash of thefts and
burglaries have drawn a voice
of alarm from Nevada City Police
Chief Jim Moon, Moon expressed
his grave concern over the situation. In expressing his concern Moon warned of the seriousness of the offenses and the
penalties involved.
The statement came after officers investigated two thefts at
the SPD market in the past few
days. As a result of the investigations, three juveniles, all boys,
are accused of taking liquor from
the store and have been referred to juvenile authorities,
Three Nevada City youths
charged with burglary of three
Nevada City business establishments and two counts of auto
theft were booked into juvenile
hall last week,
Moon said his department participated in a recent meeting
with other peace officers and
school officials in a session
designed to coordinate their efforts and lighten existing cooperation in handling of juvenile
offenders. The group will schedule other such meetings, according to Moon,

STARTED
Boys and girls in the TahoeTruckee Unified School District
are helping the University of
California test a unique approach
for. developing more local 4-H
clubs, announces Skip Bolton,
Placer-Nevada farm advisor.
Dealing with emergency situations, TV Action clubs are organized on an individual basis
with members watching a series
of programs broadcast by Channel 8, Reno. A workbook coupled
with suggestions for activities
gives the member some action
projects to complete each week-thus the name, TV Action Club.
"We tried to pick a topic
of general interest to boys and '
girls in any area of the state,"
adds Bolton. "The program on
earthquakes is of special interest. in the Truckee area, but
I doubt. that the members will
be as interested in the program
on snow and cold weather!"

Auto Registration
Need Not Be Visible .
State officials today reminded
California motorists that it is
no longer necessary to visibly
display a vehicle registration
card in the vehicle for which
issued,
“Recognizing that evena locked
car only partly protects its
owner if his name and address
are exposed to view, Highway
Patrol Commissioner H. W. Sullivan and State Director of Motor
Vehicles Verne Orr jointly encouraged motorists not to strap
a registration card to the steering wheel, clip it to the sun visor,
or similarly make it visible.
"Our legislators changed the
_law last year," said Orr, "in
response to pleas from citizens
whose homes were broken into
while their cars were parked
at airports, signalling the likelihood that the owner was out
of. town. They also recognized
the plight of women whose display of an address invited molestation."
"Official identification of
motorists by checking out vehicle license plates is so rapid
now,” declared Sullivan, "that
serious delay is seldom encountered when it becomes important to know promptly who
the owner of a car or truck is."
Vehicle owners can protect
themselves by keeping identifying documents out of public view
inside their vehicles, However,
