the Nevada City area. This brought the season total to 37. 19, compared with 27.00 inches to this date last year. The Grass Valley total was a fraction under that of Nevada City, Some snow fell. upon
high ground points in Nevada City Monday night and the end of the
current storm is not yet in sight.
TruckeeDonner received a heavy fall of new snow which brought
the supply in that area way up and gave Ski devotees a lot of happiness, but gave misery to motorists who were stranded during the height of the downpour.

Special Use Permits -The
legislation would provide that
summer cabin owners and others
who hold special use permits on
National Forest land would ob=tain a possessory interest which
would protect them should the
improvements have to be re.moved for higher and greater
use of the property.
"This
is the same type of consideration which has been given
to the concessioners on National
Parks, ” Congressman Johnson
explained, “and I believe that
the summer home owners and
others who have invested in ,;
improvements on National
Forest lands should be similarly
protected, "
j
The Congressman pointed out
that many counties.in which
summer cabins are permitted
on National Forest lands already
assess and tax the "possessory
interest" in the land as well as
the value of the cabin and other
improvements,
The bill specifically provides
that actual title to the property
would temain with the United
States, This means that if the
government decides to recover
the property for higher public
use it can do so; however, the
overnment would have to pay
or damage to the improve
ments, As it now stands the
permittee must bear the entire
burden of moving or destroying
his improvements,
Gold -The gold legislation
introduced by Congressman
Johnson is known formally as
the “Gold Mine Assistance Act
of 1967",
“This legislation won the approval of the House Interior and
Insular Affairs Committee last
year, "
said.
Congressman Johnson
“We must continue the
effort torestore the gold industry
toits rightful place in the economy of the state. and the
nation,”
Representative Johnson pointed
out that with the demand for the
metal increasing constantly in
all of its varied uses in science,
research, ‘defense and industry,
gold cannot be produced domes

the industry with arbitrarilyestablished prices which have
