Bits and pieces of the "old
West" are charmingly intermingled with a distinctly international atmosphere at Osborn
and Woods, 244 Commercial
Street in Nevada City.
One can spend hours in this
very different establishment..
either buying or just browsing. .
the variety of items stocked
there is utterly amazing, calculated to answer a multitude of
gift or household needs and affording the customer much plea-sure in his.or her ultimate purchases.
At first glance, what seemsto
be colorful confusion soon resolves itself into well organized
"departments,'' catering to many
differing tastes and pocketbooks.
It would take a lengthy ''catalogue" to list everything available for purchase..but to mention: just a few items there are:
imported candies in attractive
containers; candy sticks in such
flavors as_ sassafras, peach,
horehound, licorice, anise, etc.;
beautifully wovén baskets and
"birds' nests"; stationery of all
kinds including original greeting cards designed by Messrs
Osborn and “Woods; posters,
prints and pictures especially:
interesting are the old "original movie posters" featuring such
stars as Valentino, William S.
Hart, Charles Chaplain, Mae
West and many others ofan earlier era; uniquely designed gift
wrappings;
services; "sourdough" pots with
accompanying recipes; artificial
flowers; costume jewelry; toys
and games of every type imaginable; (Do ask about the wildly
funny "Zoodads!")
There are also cookbooks,
cooking utensils, crockery and
pottery, chopping blocks, cheese
eboards, scales and serving dishes, aprons and butter churns,
vintage vinegars, and pickles and
curry powders from far away
Bombay, India!
Then there are the books on
California history, bookmarks
of unusual designs, and schoolelegant glassware.
Allen and Dania Bomberger,
work binders; seashells from
distant and domestic seashores,
and reprints of old publications
such as Harper's Weekly of 1864;
bisque eggs and baking shells;
antiques and old bottles; canning
crocks and jars.
If what you want isn't to be

at least, is quite sure it's waiting to be invented!
