(Continued from pens 2) for the Oktoberfest in Sacramento from 1958 on; and he and the Grass Valley Lions Club sponsored a similar event at the Nevada County fairgrounds last year. Last rites were held from HooperWeaver Chapel, with burial in Greenwood Memorial Gardens: Byron Arthur Widger, a resident of Grass Valley since May 1973, died Jan. 16 in the Reno, Nevada Veterans’ Administration Hospital at the age of 44. He was a native of Oakland and a veteran of the Korean War. He had been ill for about one year prior to his death: Graveside services were held in Elm Ridge Lawn Cemetery under the auspices of Hooper-Weaver Mortuary. Bessie Hodges Weber, a 26 year resident of Nevada City, died Jan. 17 in Golden Empire Convalescent Hosdpital at the age of 87. She and her husband, Clifford,. celebrated their 64th wedding anniversary last July, at the hospital where they shared a room. They were married July 18, 1909 in Oklahoma by her father who was a Methodist minister. Mr: Weber, a third generation native of Nevada City, was in construction and she moved around the state with him until their retirement to Nevada City many years ago. Private services were held from Bergemann and Son Chapel with cremation following at Marysville. Thomas Chester Prisk, a native and life-long resident of Grass Valley, died Jan. 17 in Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital at the age of 72. For more than 50 years Mr. Prisk owned and operated a shoe repair shop in Grass Valley. In his youth he was a baseball player and a musician, playing for the Nevada County Band. He also performed as a soloist for mahy groups including the Cornish Choir, Grass Valley Octette and Emmanuel Episcopal Church. He was a sportsman and member of Grass Valley Sportsmen’s Club also. Services were held from the Hooper-Weaver Chapel followed by cremation in Marysville. Della Minnie Fetterhoff, former housekeeper for Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital, died Jan. 18 at SNMH at the age of 81. ‘She was a native of West Virginia, and came to California at the Se ates bs ota eee, housekeeper for SNMH. Funeral services were held ;sean Chapel, followed by burial in Greenwood Memorial M. Darrel Coughlan, a native of Nevada City and longtime resident of Alameda, died in the Bay city on Jan. 12. He was 78. He was a teacher in Alameda and a veteran of World War I, after which he returned to teaching until his retirement in 1961. John (Jack) Truscott, native and lifelong resident of Grass Valley, died Jan. 19, at Spring Hill Manor Convalescent Hospital at “the age of 79. He had worked for the Nevada City-Grass Valley Union for 36 years, from age 14; and had pub the Tri-County News for five years or more; published the Nevada County Nugget as owner for two years and operated the Nevada County Printing Company until he sold it and retired in 1966. Funeral services were held from Hooper-Weaver Chapel followed by burial in the family plot in Grass Valley Cemetery. . Sport among youngsters, expecially ona Feold, clear and sunny ‘January day.
