BASHFUL ELEPHANT
and District Superintendent
Rocklin,
Dear Sir:
Two years ago my husband
and I visited Nevada City
and fell in love with your
mountain community. Since
then we have purchased
some property and built a
house on Deer Creek with
the hope that in the future
we will be privileged to live
permanently in "God's
Country,” away from the
noise, traffic and confusion
of a large city,
I feel that we are parttime residents and therefore
are quite interested in the
welfare of your city.
We happened to bein town
last Sunday and for the first
time in many a year saw the
beauty of a snow fall. To
us, your community was silently transformed over
night into a "Currier & Ives"
"Winter Wonderland, "
It is sickening, though, to
think that man could come

TO THE EDITOR:
Gentlemen:
I most sincerely hope the
NUGGET is doing what it
can to help defeat the $100
million giftto the United
Nations by the United States.
For it will be a gift. We
will never get a cent back,
andthe U.N, is rapidly becoming a communist organization and is transgressing
the limitation of its charter.

discusses the) Clebanoff Strings concert with its conductor Herman Clebanoff.
Clebanoff Strings
Please Large Audience
GRASS VALLEY ----The
Clebanoff Strings held the
attention of a large crowd at
the Veterans Memorial Building imGrass Valley Saturday night---from Mozart to
Lerner-Loewe,
The concert crowd waited
patiently half an hour beyond the scheduled concert
time, andfew of them were
disappointed,
Herman Clebanoff and his
group of strings caught the
crowd's attention with the
first number, Mozart's
"Symphony in D Major",
The final number, Lerner
and Loewe's "Fair Lady"
music found the audience
still attentive and pleased,
First half of the program
featured Clebanoff's smaller
string group and included:
"The Prayer of a Torreador,
Opus 8" by Joaquin Turina;
Tschaikowsky's smooth and
flowing "Serenade for
Strings”; and interesting
“Prelude and Danse for Harp
and Strings” by Marcel
Tournier; and the modern
"playful pizzicato and frolicsome finale from "Simple
Symphony” written by Benjamin Britten,
After the intermission,
Clebanoff augmented his
string group for orchestral
feeling and delved into music from great shows, operettas, films, songs of America and other popular pieces,
It was all enjoyable and
appreciated,
Of special note was an
encore, “Brazilian Polka",
which Clebanoff and his
strings have recorded on the
Mercury label in a new album, "Strings Afire, "
