4-H Club News By ELIZABETH GOLLUB From the time I began fixing plugs and outlets and making extension cords I have found my 4-H electricity project more and more challenging. . While making one of my first projects, a tool box, I became very discouraged, but just the same it turned out well and has had many years of use, Since. then I have come upon more difficult projects which, out of necessity, I have had to improvise on. After trying one method after another in building a continuity tester, I came up with the idea of using an old flashlight, A few years later I saw the same thing in a department store being sold for $3.50. Mine had_cost 30¢ for the batteries! I have gotten more than a knowledge of electricity out of my 4-H experiences, I used to be scared to stand before our club and give a talk, ladmired the way in which older members could lead the group and keep a meeting running smoothly. Even though I'm still a bit jittery in speaking, I think the younger members are just dying for the small bit of confidence I have so they too can get up and speak before the club. As an adult I believe I will choose a field in electronics. 4-H has helped me to see that there is a future in electricity. The Cal Aggie 4-H Club on the Davis Campus of the University of California invites 4Her's from surrounding counties to test their judging skill, announces Dave Bixler, Aggie club president. "We're setting up judging classes in beef, sheep, dairy, swine and horse for a practice judging event that will start at 9 a.m., Saturday, Feb, 24", adds Bixler. The Judging Skills Day will not be a competitive activity. It's a training program for 4-H'ers planning to judge livestock classes at county field days, 4-H fairs, or other local shows, Judging will be done in the horse arena on the Davis campus. Elephant train tours of the campus will start at noon. Those interested in the tour should ‘bring a sack lunch, Donuts, coffee and milk will be available for skills day participants, .
