The officers confirmed for 1968 were Al. Davis, President, Bruce McDonald, Vice -president, Joyce Weiss, recording secretary, Joan Horton, corresponding secretary and Millie Mills, Treasurer. Joe Ruess gave a well received talk on the preservation of Colfax Highway as a scenic highway, illustrated by his fine color slides, : It was announced that the organization plans to have a program available to present for the entertainment of any interested organizations. This program will be on ColfaxHighway and its environs, illustrating the colorful seasons and giving the reasons for asking that this road be preserved as a Scenic Highway. Members of the safety committee of the association reported on having conferred with Lts. Allan Axton andE.A. Lewis, _ officers in charge, respectively, of the Grass Valley and Gold Run headquarters of the State Highway Patrol. Factual data and official statistics which these officers voluntarily supplied prove conclusively that widening limit of 45. miles per hour be established and enforced on the section of route 174 under con‘sideration. Following this report a resolution was proposed and approved by the members present. That the Scenic Colfax Highway be preserved and maintained in its entirety essentially as it is today, both as to routing and essential features. That a maximum speed limit of 45 miles per hour be established, clearly marked, and enforced over that portion of the Colfax Highway (State route #174) beginning ‘at the Grass Valley City limits and ending at the junction with old U.S, 40. That such pedestrian crossing lanes, and warning signs, and. further speed restrictions indesignated areas as the State Highway Patrol may deem necessary to achieve maximum safety on this highway, be likewise es-tablished. _ That all stateand county agencies and officials concerned be requested to give full cooperation to the officers of this — association and to the members of its highway safety committee in their efforts to make this a safe as well as a scenic highway." Axton at the meeting spoke briefly and emphasized the fact, that local residents, whose familiarity with the road may have made the careless, should check up on their driving habits.
