All the miners are driven out of the
mines at the Black.Diamond mine by
a fire caused by waste coal left in a
breast, which caught spontaneously
and soon got beyond control. The
miners left the shaft to-day at noon,
“and the mine is now left almost entirely, to the flames. The Franklin
mine i also troubled with fire, and at
Newcastle the twolabor factions are
fighting, so that the supply-of coal is
shut almost completely off. Nine carloads of Gilman coal arrived today and
was sold off in three hours. Seattle,
though surrounded with coal niines,
is threatened with a-eeal famine.
