AND WELCOME ABOARD to young sprout DAVID FRANK
MILLER, first citizen to be born in the new Sierra Nevada Memorial
Hospital. Young “Dave,” a real boy if I ever saw one, is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. James C. Miller of Grass Valley. Mother Nancy
and son Dave are both. doing splendidly. Poppa Miller is a genial
voung police officer on the Grass Valley force.
BUNION BEATING AROUND. I dragged my fallen arches into
Pete”s Cafe in Nevada City on New Years Eve and gosh, folks, there
was very little standing room. Just about everybody who had a
body was there at one time or another. If this guy George doesn't
quit calling me an admiral Ill probably gét a redu tion in rate
from the good old original who sits at Nevada City city hall.
AT THE VETERANS MEMORIAL BUILDING, the American Legion hosted a capacity crowd at the New Years Eve doings. Here
again, just about everybody turned out to wish each and all the
best danged New Year of all . . 1959. Holbrooke Hotel, Monty’s,
Blaze’s, and many, many other night spots prepared for the occasion of celebration. A minimum of the worst happened and law
guardians from both cities reported all’s well that ends well
and that’s’ something for New Years Eve.
SEEMS AS THOUGH, with this embarkation of the New Year,
people who are responsible for the manufacture, distribution and
sale of goods such as automobiles, refrigerators, washing machines
and stuff like that are giving a second look at the possibilities of
the home town newspaper as an advertising medium. Contracts .
given the NUGGET for the year 1959 indicate that, Nevada Countywise, the Nougat is a forceful force.. .

A NEWSPAPERMAN’S DREAM r
O Lord, have mercy on this guy as I wander here below,
Gathering news and spreading tales about the folks we know
It’s true, I am inquisitive ..a very nosey guy;
My one redeeming feature is: I’m seldom known to lie.
I have my nose in everything that happens here on earth.
No matter what your standing is, how high or low your brith,
You try and steal some money and present a pretty tale;
I come out and tell the truth as to why you went to jail.
You wreck your car on one short beer, or so you firmly stated:
I come out and say the judge declared you inebriated.
The preacher brings his sermons in, the lawyer brings his will
The plumber states in big bold type he must collect his bill
I print news about the time you first saw the light of day,
About the things you did on earth, and when you passed away
I have to delve in everything from politics to treason . .
At times I am convinced that even murder is in season.
It’s queer how folks will do nice things, then drop a little hint,
As how it wouldn’t hurt a bit to have it show in print.
Then that same guy, while flying high, will cut a foolish caper,
And go to any length at all to keep it from the paper.
? And so I ask Thy mercy as I near the Golden Stairs . . .
You put me here to stick my nose in other folks’ affairs!
