Planning Director Sharon Boivin announced that all matters scheduled will be continued to an indefinite date. Applicants and property owners affected by the cancellation will be re-notified of the new date of the continued public hearings. Four of the seven member commission have resigned because of the conflictfinancial disclosure law which became effective Jan. 1. The commission cannot operate with the three remaining members. Supervisors will make appointments to fill the vacancies. The commission is. without a chairman since Bob Caris, chairman, is among those who gave up their offices. Also resigning were W. W. For maximum safety in situations created by cutbacks in heating oil deliveries, the following are recommendations by the industry and the national . Insurance’ Information Institute: Any building, residential or commercial, must be heated to at least 40 degrees to guard against freezing of water in pipes and other plumbing fixtures. Accordingly, steps must be taken to retain the building’s heat. So..get with it now and repair all broken windows, skylights and doors. Close ventilators in attics and concealed places, If you have any doubts at all as to constant temperature, use a thermometer. Don’t shut off heat in any room without giving a lot of thought to freezing, since water pipes can be concealed in " its walls, ceiling or flooring.
And, in the case of unoccupied buildings, such as a summer home, be sure to very completely drain the water heaters and other water supply systems. If you do not you are simply inviting trouble. NEVER, under any circumstances, attempt to thaw pipes by using a blow torch or open flame of any kind. Instead use hot water or some heating element approved by the Underwriters’ Laboratories. And, at the same time, check the provisions of your insurance as to .coverage based on today’s values in the event of a freezeup. Underinsured property will not return the full replacement costs in the event of such a loss.
