Her appointment followed the resignation of Robert Murdock, who took part ina three-way “straw drawing” contest to see which member should resign so that Birchville School District members could be represented, The othertwo North San Juan members, Frank Worely and Earl L, Dow, recommended the appointment of Mrs, Browning. Upon acceptance of the 1961-1962 budget, the supervisors set July 10 for hearing questions and protests regarding individual tax assessments, and July 17, for public hearing of the newly adopted budget. Also before the Board was Dr. Walter Bond of the state Department of Public Health, and Dr. E. J. Best, Nevada County Health Officer, who discussed thenew Health Contract which will be relatively the same as last year’s with regard to total expenditures. Curtis Clark then appeared, representing the Nevada County Sportsmen Association and renewed his previous plea for an ordinance allowing open access to remote fishing and recreationalwaters, He again informed the board that the sale of lake frontages, and other parcels of land in the high mountains was endangering the possibility of sportsmen reaching the excellent angling areas. The’Supervisors were also asked to attend the dedication of the new Lake Spalding recreational area sponsored by the Pacific Gas . and Electric Company.
