Pictures and Story By Dean Thompson
Nestled near the Highway 99 freeway north of Redding
before the highway crosses Lake Shasta, Calaveras Cement Company is completing a new cement plant.
~ Atop a nearby hill is the company's Guest Home, a
pleasing haven for engineers working on the project. In
the future it will house guests of the company who come
to tour the plant.
It is a long way from the Sierras, and it is hard to
believe that we will find a local story here, But find it
we do. a
Calaveras Cement wanted the Guest Home to be comfortable and informal. They chose Alpha of Nevada
City to do the furnishing. They have every right tobe
proud of their choice,
But the story does not end there, Alpha's Industrial
department also furnished the explosive power to place
into operation anew rock crushing plant nearly two miles
from the cement plant---two miles over which the crushed rock will be carried by conveyor belt.
