Senior citizens have chance to help state oldsters A new program of employing senior citizens to assist in meeting the needs of the elderly was announced today by the California Commission on Aging in Sacramento. The new state civil service classification of Community Representative, California Commission on Aging, is designed to provide part-time employment in California civil service for senior Californians who are retired or nearing retirement age and who wish to participate in programs for the aging in their own communities, In this program, thought to be the first of its kind in the United States, Community Representatives will assist in the formation of Senior Citizen's Clubs, organization of community resources for the aging, and research projects to determine community needs in the areas of housing, employemt, recreation, health, medical care, legal assistance and personal and property tax assistance. According to Charles W. Skofen, Jr., executive director of the commission, "Strangely enough, the most critical need among senior Californians is the need to be useful in a meaningG.V.
