David Vertin
Joins NCRCD
David Vertin has signed with
the Nevada County Resource
Conservation District with plans
for reforestation and pasture on
his land. :
Director Robert Grappi an-—
nounced that technical
assistance, in the form of consultation regarding pond construction, proposed pipeline,
permanent sprinkler system
design, survey and design for an
irrigation pipeline and pond
enlargement help will be given.
Grappi said this activity
reflects the many and varied
services offered to the landowners of Nevada Conty by his
district.
At the regular meeting on
January 3 the board of directors
held an election with Robert
Grappi and George Dyer being
elected president and vicepresident, respectively
The board voted to change the
regular meeting night of the
directors to the first Tuesday of
each month ‘from the first
Wednesday. The change will be
effective with the February
meeting.
‘Death and Dying’
seminar is Feb. 10
at Sierra College
Sierra College will sponsor a
special one-day seminar entitled
‘“‘Death and Dying’’, to be held
on Saturday, February 10, from
8:00 a.n. to 6:00 p.m. in Room 10,
Weaver Hall.
The seminar was designed to
help social and health care
professionals a paraprofessions
to better understand and more
effectively assist the terminally
ill patient and his family. Others
who relate to the dying and their
loved ones are also invited to
attend.
Coordinators Dorothy Pethel,
R.N. and Marjoie Sanchez, R.N.
have arranged for panel!
presentaions by authorities in
the field, plus lectures, films
and discussion _ sessions.
Registration is limited and
interested persons are urged to
enroll early to ensure their
participatin. =
The registration fee will be
$2.50 (luncheon fee an additional
$2.50) and % unit of credit will
be granted to seminar participants. Deadline for
registration is February 7. For

The Maritime
Academy open
for women
Young men, and now for the
first time young women, who
are interested,in attending the
California Maritime Academy
should make plans to take the
required entrance
examinations, according to the
admissions office of the Vallejo ~
institution.
All prospective students must
take the College Entrance
Examination Board tests, or the
examinations of the American
College Testing program, prior
to the middle of March. The
tests are given monthly, but
registration is required several
weeks in advance. Information
on these tests may be obtained
from the guidance counseling
center of any high school.
The Maritime Academy trains
students for careers afloat and
ashore in the maritime industry,
and is one of five,such statesupported institutions in the
United States. Graduates of the
three-year accelerated program
receive a Bachelor’s degree in
maritime engineering or
nautical science, and a merchant marine license as third
assistant engineer or. third
mate. In addition, qualified
graduates receive a commission
in the Naval Reserve.
