Roberts Took OverEmployment As Nevada County Planning Resources, Roberts as ‘NEVADA COUNTY NUGGET Wednesday July 19, 1961 NEVADA CIT Y---Introducing William N., Roberts formerly of Mill Valley, Calif. , who began employment July 1 as county planRobert and. his wife have been married seven years. They have three children; Terri, 6, ning director, Dwayne, 4, and Kim 1, Roberts grew up in San Angelo, Texas. He attended the University of Texas, and obtained a Bachelor of Architecture in Regional and City Planning, in 1955. His work experience includes part-time employment with John G. Becker, an architect-engineer in San Angelo, Texas, his last year in high school, and during summer vacations. While attending the university of Texas, he was employed part-time by the City of Austin, Texas, Department of Planning, and participated in . subdivision, zoning, annexation and improvement studies, Upon graduation, he was employed by HaroldF, Wise Associates, Palo Alto, who were the consultants for the Austin, Texas, Master Plan Program, Following the completion of the Austin project, he continued with the firm and moved to Sacramento in 1956. Harold F, Wise Associates became Pacific Planning and Research, Inc., which was subsequently merged with EBASCO Services Incor porated, in San Francisco, While with this consulting organization, Roberts as ed on some 17 planning programs. These programs included general plans for Plumas County, the Loomis Basin Area in Placer County, and the Auburn General Plan, Also included in the planning programs were recreation planning Studies in Plumas and Calaveras Counties, prepared for the California Department of Water pated in the designing of Graeagle Subdivisions in Plumas County, and detailed area planning and zoni studies for the ‘hisishonae Reservoir and Lake Almanor’ in Plumas County. Roberts is an associate member of the American Institute of Planners, Roberts believes that Nev’ ada County offers unusual opportunities for the accomplishment of a positive program. Nevada County is now on the threshold of rapid development as witnessed by increases in property transactions, hie believes. The people of Nevada County now have a choice between guiding this development to retain those things which make it an outstanding area in which to live and work; or, eat et take its own course and this would be the real danger, the wasting of its unlim ited resource development potentials, the planner says. It is important that she , people of Nevada County recognize that they have a vital interest in the planning and orderly growth of the entire county as one entity, The various areas of ha county will prosper as does caacennyekasiils. Planing provides a rare opportunity tolook ahead, to decide the best way for development to take place before a crisis develops; and, this will enable county government to plan for the public services it must provide. After talking with the Planning Commission, the Board DirectorOn July 1 of Supervisors, and some of the citizens of the county, Roberts feels that the county is fortunate in having many capable people whé have devoted a great deal of their time in starting the planning program. He regards the job as planning director as a real challenge, but recognizes that the success of planing ordinarilly rests with the residents of the county, Nevada City Police Acquire New Car NEVADA CITY..Come Fall, the new Nevada City police car will be 1962 Studebaker Lark Police Cruiser, The Nevada City Council ‘Monday night accepted the $2300 bid of Angelini Bros., Nevada City, for a-new police car.
