Vacation Bible School
July 17-28. The first
Camp Session at Camp
Alta will be for boys and
girls 9-12 years old and
will be from Aug. 7-11
for the boys and Aug. 28Sept. 1 for the girls. The
second Camp Session for
Youth 13-24 years old
will be from Aug. 14-18.
St. Patrick’s Church
Don’t forget the big annual beef barbecue Aug.
6 at Lion’s Lake. Tickets
for adults are $1.50 and
tickets for children may
be obtained on the
grounds. Chef Gallino
will present his wellknown pit barbecue at
this barbecue. Games,
fun, and lots of food will
be presented for the public’s enjoyment. Come

New Church
Holds Services
on July 16th
First Church of God
The first service in the
new church will be held
on, July 16 at 10 a.m.
Thenew church has been
named the Whispering
Pines Church of God.
There will be no Sunday
School, but the Young
People will meet at 6
p.m. as usual. Remember the Young People’s
Barge Party at Englebright Dam July 21 and
22. If you have food to
donate for this occasion,

will also be dedicated on
Sunday, July 30.
Grace Lutheran Church
Missouri Synod
Fellowship Club meeting Friday, July 21 at
7:30 at the Church. Last
Sunday, the. Grace Lutheran Church was
honored to have two Norwegian families who had
never been to the United
States before. Elsa and
Rolf Roen and Ruth and
Harold Borge from Tonsherg, Norway came to
Grass Valley with cousins, who live in Seattle,
Washington. Their stay
here was only a short
one, but it was an enjoyable one. Mrs. Margaret Fergon, also of
andinavian descent,
said that the Roens and
Borges love our country
and they think the people
are very friendly.First Methodist Church
Mizpah Circle will meet
at 7:30 p.m. at Alice
Yun’s on Thursday night.
Ruth Circle will meet at
9:30 a.m. Tuesday morning at the church parlor.
The Methodist Youth
Fellowship will hold its
Pot Luck dinner: at the
Frank Schoellerman
home on Combie Road on
July 16th. Be at the
church for transportation. The evening will be
spent in swimming, dinner, and worship.

has been named a representative of the College Park Quarterly
Meeting by the Pacific
‘Yearly meeting of the
Religious Society of
Friends (Quakers) to the
Fourth Friends World
Conference to be held at
Guilford College here
July 24 August 3, 1967.
Mr. Barns is the teacher in North Columbia and
is a member of the Grass
Valley Friends Meeting.

ROUGH AND READY, Don Burkard reporting:
Experience!! That is what the Rough and Ready
4-H Club got plenty of June 3rd and 4th at the
Teen Fair. The food may not have made much money
but everyone had fun.
June 10th was a skating party for the club. The
party was from 2:00 to 4:00. The reason for the
party was a reward for the members who gave
demonstrations. The participation was good. After
the party everyone was treated to ice cream by
Mr. and Mrs. Burkard.
June 11th Mr. and Mrs. Burkard and children
attended a goat show in Roseville. It was the
first time Linda Burkard had entered her goats
in a show.
The 15th of June was the club’s achievement
night. It was the first club in this area to have its
own achievement night and it was well attended.
Besides the parents and friends of the members,
there were visitors from other clubs. The night
was filled with surprises and fun. Mr Coy Miller
of the Mother Lode Bank gave a short talk and
gave a year pin to each of the members.
‘CHICAGO PARK HORNETS, Maggie Jones reporting:
4-H Exhibit Day and the barbecue were the
main topics discussed at the Chicago Park Hornet’s
regular monthly meeting. Two committees were
set up for these events. One was to set up the
booth for Fun Day, a dunking booth. The committee
consisted of Joe Geist, chairman, Chris Bierwagen,
Betty Bierwagen, Mike Dyer, Steve Paasch and
Bob Paasch. The other committee was to set up to
plan the schedule for people to work in the booth.
This committee consisted of Mary Bierwagen, chairman, Maggie Jones, Jack Cunningham, Denise Heffelfinger, and Linda Nichols.
Reports were given on the project tour and
picnic, and on the community projects.
Songleaders Katie Heffelfinger and Betty Bierwagen led the club in a song.
The two ushers at Achievement Night from
our club were Patti Jones and Chris Bierwagen.
At the end of the meeting the initiation of the
new officers was held..
SHADY CREEK, Linda Bandimere reporting:
The Shady Creek 4-H Club came to order at
8:30, Columbia Hill School, Friday, June 14, 1967.
Eleven members. were present and eight were
absent. Visitors were Diane Sellers, Dale Satterfield, Laura Stuart, John Bandimere, Debbie Bandimere, and Jeanie Whittlesey.
Donna Cobb led the pledges and Linda Bandimere led the songs. Sandy Bandimere reported on
the 4-H skating party with Meadowlarks. Sandy
Bandimere made a motion that we have a swimming
party and tour the second Friday in’ July. The meeting was adjourned at 9:15. Bandimeres served refreshments.
BANNER CLOTHING GROUP, Melinda Peyret reporting:
Today (June 27, 1967) we had a 4-H meeting at
Mrs. Bryant’s house. The meeting was for the
lst year clothing group.
They learned about different types of materials.
At the next meeting, they are going to town to
buy material for an apron or a laundry bag.

Adds Lustre a
New stars are appearing
to add lustre to the cast
of the variety benefit
show, GOLDEN AUGUST
REVIEW 1967, scheduled
for August 5th in the old
Nevada Theatre. The 12act production will feature the finest local talent in a one-night effort
to pay for permanent
lighting improvements in
the 100-year-old playhouse.
Newly added to the cast
is Les McCabe, who will
appear as Mr. Interlocutor in Larry Farchi’s
Minstrel Show number.
Tall, affable Les will don
a towering top hat and
elegant tuxedo for his
role as straight man to
the zany minstrels. By
day local farmers may
know Les as Director and
Farm Advisor for the
University of California
Agricultural. Extension
Service.
Don Baggett, who will
sing lst tenor and lead
the barbershop quartet,
has announced that Nevada City Mayor, Dr.
Arch McPherson, will
sing baritone in the
group’s four musical
numbers. .
Everyone is invited to
enjoy the music and the
fun of seeing familiar and
friendly faces on the
stage. Tickets should be
purchased early at either
Sanders Music Store in
Grass Valley or OsborneWoods in Nevada City.
Those who purchase $5
tickets will be entitled
to a delicious after-theatre buffet supper following the perfomance. According to Mrs. Leland
Lewis of Nevada City,
who. is arranging the
supper, only 200 of these
special tickets are to be
sold. She also advises
that golden: chicken and
light wine are just two
of the items on the menu.
Starting July 24, the box
office at the old theatre
will be open from 10a.m.
to 12 .Noon, Monday
through Friday. By presenting their tickets,
those who plan to attend
the show may _reserve
seats.
August 5th is the night
for the GOLDEN AUGUST
REVIEW 1967 at the Old
Nevada Theatre.

Enjoy Fete
Fifty-two members,
their husbands and other
guests enjoyed a potluck
dinner last Thursday evening in the lovely garden
of Mrs. Maurice Lupien
on Willow Valley Road,
Nevada City.
Susan, Stanley Halls,
Jr., and Dale Jacobson,
a popular local trio well’
known for their folk singing , entertained. Mrs.
Adelaide. Reilly introduced her brother in law,
Mr. James Keleher of
Sacramento, who showed
slides of recent fishing
trips in this area and in
northern California waters. He also showed
many beautiful slides of
