The library board at the Nevada City library has been doing
a considerable amount of changing and rearranging in recent
months in an effort to make the
library more attractive to the
users and to update the available reading material,
To achieve this latter goal,
several members of the board
assisted by members of the
Friends of the Libraries, did the
painstaking job of sorting through
the books and culling out old,
out of date volumes or ones that
neyer seemed to be removed
from the library by card holders,
This group of book sorters
came across some unusual things
during their labors. There were
many old and useless books, but
there were some that were found
in unusual places or circum. Stances,
For example, the works of
Mary Baker Eddy were found on
the shelf reserved for books on
medicine,
Among the do-it-yourself volumes on how to repair your
house or make a concrete patio
was an old, old book on obstetrics,

The Congressman urged the

over the state at the state board
meeting and campout scheduled
July 29-31. Last time the local
group hosted a state board meeting more than 1,000 attended.
A huge crowd of trailer fans
is expected at the fairgrounds
Aug. 4-7 when 500 to 700
trailers converge on the Lions
Lake picnic area for a national
convention.
With just a few weeks to give
the fairgrounds the final touches,
the 17th District Agricultural
Association Fair will open-August 25 for a four day run.
Something new has been scheduled this year for the final fair
night. Each year it becomes
harder and harder for the board
to come up with an event that
will pull out the crowds on that
last night. Hardtop racing, rodeos, horseshows and roller derbys have all been tried.
This year it will be a destruction derby. Run in a small area
in front of the grandstand, the
main purpose is to smash the
dickens out of every other automobile and still remain in driving condition yourself at the end
of an allotted period of time.
In addition to being allowed to
back intoand drive forward into
every car in sight, a cash prize
will also be awarded to the survivor. Sounds like a great way
-to getrid of all those nagging
frustrations.
