To Wed Oct. 7
The engagement of Miss
Geri Slade and Mr. Jack
Barry Godsey was recently announced by the
parents of thé bride to
be, Mr. and Mrs. M. L.
Slade of Auburn.
Mr. Godsey is the son
of Mr. and Mrs. W. A.
Godsey of Nashville,
Tenn. He is a graduate
of Donlson High School
in Nashville and is now
serving with the U.S. Air
Force stationed at Travis
Air Force Base.
Geri is a graduate of
Placer High School and
attended Sierra College.
She was affiliated with
Jobs Daughters. Geri is
now employed by the Nevada County Nugget.
The young couple have
set October 7 as the date ;
for their wedding.
Bridal Shower
Held for Miss
Linda Goff
A miscellaneous bridal
shower for Miss Linda
Goff was held on July 20
at 7:30 p.m. at the home
of Mrs. Eva Hakala on
Catherine Lane.
Approximately thirty
people attended loaded
with best wishes and gifts
in hand.
To keep the guest busy
and happy, old magazines
and scrapbook pages were
handed out with the orders, “Make something
up for Linda.” Much to
the enjoyment of those
present, the results were
most amusing, as well as
interesting, giving sound
advice to the bride-to-be.
Linda proceeded to
carefully open her many
gifts-which were beautiful as well as useful.
Delicious refreshments
were served and enjoyed
by all. Hostesses for the
evening were Eva Hakala,
Evangeline Wilcox, and
Nancy McCrary.
Linda’s marriage to
Thomas Armstrong will
take place August 12 at
the Whispering Pines
Church of God, Grass
Valley.

Rebekah Lodge Installs Officers
Esther Rebekah Lodge No. 9 of Grass Valley was
honored last Saturday evening with the first official
visit of District Deputy President Gladys Stokes and
her Marshal, Lila Dybe. District Deputy Grand Matriarch, Jean Brass, of the Ladies Encampment Auxiliary No. 11, Independent Order of Odd Fellows, was
also an honored guest. Following proper introductions
and being welcomed by those present, they were given
seats on the right of the Noble Grand, Edna Rudd.
The District Deputy President, assisted by her
Marshal and Jean Brass acting as Warden, installed
the following officers: Lura Arnold as Vice Grand,
with Emily Hodgkin as her Right Supporter, and
Luella Kerr as her Left Supporter; Barbara Hershman
as Warden, and Irene Mason as Chaplain.
Following installation, a short business session
was held with Noble Grand Edna Rudd presiding. The
semi-annual reports were read and accepted.
It was announced that plans have been finalized for
the rummage sale to be held August 8-9, from 9:30
a.m. to 4:00 p.m., in the Independent Order of Odd
Fellows Building, entrance on Church Street, Grass
Valley. Anyone wishing further information, or pick
up of any saleable rummage, may call Edna Rudd
at 273-6601 or Lura Arnold 265-4621 or 265-2471.
‘The District Deputy President and Deputy Marshal
were presented gifts from the lodge. Presentation of
the gifts were made by Noble Grand Edna Rudd and
Emily Hodgkin.
Delicious refreshments were served by Chairman
Zale Johnson and her committee, on tables appropriately decorated with lovely blue hydrangeas and deep
pink roses.

Holds Party
The Whispe Pines
Church of God Youth Fellwoship held its annual
barge party on July 2122 at Englebright Dam.
A double-decker barge
was rented from the marina ge pie allowed
amount of young le
arrived and boarded the
barge for the leisurely
trip up the lake to the
chosen destination. Several trips back to the dock
by Mr. Dick Goff in his
boat made it possible for
the rest of the young people to get to site for
the fun-filled tow days.
About thirty young people made the trip and
during the evening, several sleeping bags were
flung down on the beach

were unfolded ys the
barge and prepared for
sleep.
After dinner, all gathered around a bonfire built
on the sand to sing songs
and have devotions. Several young people sat back
around the fire and talked
about many different
things until early Saturday morning.
Saturday almost everyone was: up by 7:30 and
had changed clothes to go
swimming or eat breakfast. Activities for the
day included watermore swimming, '.
and boat-riding. By 2:30,
the barge was ready to
be taken back to the marina. After the leisurely
trip down the lake, the
barge was unloaded at the
dock where it developed
engine trouble. The marina mechanics came and
examined it while the
young people had dinner
at the dock. All in all,
the group had a very good
time even though several
were tired and sunburned.

Installs New
1967-68 Officers.
The 1967-68 officers of
Laurel Parlor No. 6 were
installed by Deputy Grand
President Phyllis Butz,
Colunibia Parlor and her
corps of acting grand ofActing Grand
Marshal Gladys Blanchard conducted the officers to their stations and
invested them intheir regalia. Acting Grand Past
President Bessie Rush
gave the obligation and
prayer to the new officers. Organist Elsie DeMattei with her music .
gave the ceremony the
added pep. Betty Hansen,
Manzanita Parlor sang
the Hymn to California.
President Ethel Brady,
taking office for a second
term was escorted to her
station by June Evans,
Jane Elliott, Marille Day
and Gladys Brailey
carrying beautiful Gladiolas. Ethel Brady, accepting the honor of president, thanked the officers
for their co-operation and
help in making the past
term such a-success and
expressed hope that the
coming. year would prove
as successful. She
stressed membership as
the theme for this term.
Laurel Parlor’s new
Deputy Grand President
Elsie Peard, Manzanita
Parlor, was introduced.
Hilda Sandow is the new
Supervising District Deputy Grand President.
June Evans chairman for
the social part of the evening and her committee
served lovely refreshments in the banquet hall,
and was thanked.
Following installation,
Esther McCluskey called
a committee meeting of
the Ways and Means Committee. It was decided to
have a public party in the
Veterans Memorial Hall,
Nevada City Wednesday
evening, August 16th.
