No Park Pollution Says Jones
State Parks and Recreation
Director Fred L. Jones has announced that units of the Califomia State Park System in the
Tahoe Basin will not add to the
pollution problems of Lake TaIn reference to the two-day
federal -state water pollution
control conference that opened
last week to discuss methods of
controlling pollution in the Tahoe Basin, Jones explained how
’ park units in the area operate to
avoid dumping sewage into the
lake.
“The Tahoe State Recreation
Area," he said, “ties into the
Tahoe City sewage system where
sewage is treated and discharged
to percolation beds, not into
the lake.
“At D. L. Bliss and Emerald
Bay State Parks, leaching systems: are used, and no waste is
discharged into Lake Tahoe.
"We will build a secondary
sewage treatment plant at our
new Sugar Pine Point State Park
from which treated effluent will
be discharged into leaching
fields at least 1800 feet from
the shoreline. Inthe meantime,
in order that the public can use
the "Immediate Public Use'
camping facilities at the park,
chemical toilets are being installed, “
