Marysville, is newly appointed
District 3 maintenance engineer
for the State Division of Highways
succeeding RolandI, "Nick"
Nicholson of Yuba City who retires Aug. 1.
In ‘his new position, Meister,who has been with the highway
division for 17 years, will supervise a staff of 400 in the upkeep
and repair of 1,400 miles of
highways and freeways in the
11-county area.served by the
Marysville district office,
A native of Gardena, Calif.,
Meister received an Associate of
Elmo C. Meister
Arts degree in 1941 from Compton
College.
In 1946 he joined the Fresno
district of the highway division
as a senior engineering aid and
within a year was advanced to
junior highway engineer and then
to junior civil engineer,
Since 1953 he has been promoted successively to assistant
highway engineer, highway
engineering associate, associate
highway engineer and to senior
highway engineer in June 1963.
During his highway engineering
career, Meisterhas worked on the
design of some sections of Interstate 80, on a highway deficiency
Survey of the 27 cities and 11
counties in District 3 and as
assistant district traffic engineer.
For the past two years he has
been district location engineer
heading a staff of 40 engineers
assembling preliminary survey
information and staking centerlines for adopted routes of future
freeways,
A World WarII veteran, Meister
commanded an infantry machine
gun platoon in Europe.
He served for 12 years on the
Nevada county committee on
school district organization while
making his home near Smartsville
and is a member of the California
State Employees Association,
He and his wife, Barbara, have
two children: Mrs, Dennis Wolffof Berkeley and Ray A. Meister,
a student at the University of
California, Berkeley.
