Supt. Gerald Gelatt presented tentative figures to the trustees Monday which show expected expenditures of $1,361,172 for 1968-69, Board members will look over Leading man handcuffed The theatrical field has a time honored expression that "The show must go on." And the cast of The Music Man (Nevada Theatre July 3, 4, 5) might add "even when the leading man is handcuffed." And that's the way it appeared at rehearsal when Richard Merritt, in the role of constable, snapped the cuffs on Dr. Arch McPherson, who plays the lead. and then the fun began. First the the figures, and Gelatt will refine them by the next meeting on July 15 so the trustees can adopt a budget for legal publication.
The main thing which must be refined is the amount of income. It is listed at the same total as the expenditures plus a tiny $5,000 reserve, but income may increase or decrease some as the amount of taxes and the carryover from last year become known. Well over half the $1.3 million budget is ticketed for teachers’ salaries, That category alone totals $744,838, Interestingly, the amount budgeted for teachers' salaries almost matches’ the amount expected on the revenue side from secured roll property taxes, The largest single source of district income, secured taxes will produce $740,553 to the district this year, Gelatt estimates.
