Coronary care equipment poe _ 4, 1973
NEW EQUIPMENT for the coronary care unit at Sierra Nevada Memorial Hospital is demonstrated by Mrs. Mary Sutter, RN, on her “patient”, Mrs. Norma Christensen, RN. The
ultrasonic nebulizer increases the water content of inspired air, reduces the development
of mucus thereby improving the patient's ventilation. The new unit was purchased by the
Lyndon Baines Johnson Memorial Fund. The monies were donated by friends in memory of
Mrs: Chester Loney, President Johnson's first school teacher and affectionately referred to
as "Miss Kate’ by the late President.
Hay fever is not human
Ask any pet, especially during
this extremely ‘‘grassy’’ spring
and summer, and they will tell
you in no uncertain terms that
hay fever is not human!
In fact, if they could converse,
most pets would, through tears
and sneezes, complain about
high grasses, wild oats, dried
weeds and foxtails.
But symptoms speak louder
than words in this case.
Watering eyes, heavy sneezing
and constant scratching may
well mean that your pet has
added to his list ‘of human
ailments the ‘‘summer blues of
hay fever’. The itch is very
real! Of course, it ean also be
foxtails (or more correctly, wild
oats) that are causing the
sneezing.
Regardless of the cause, the
animal will scratch and tug and
bite in trying to get relief.
This ‘‘summer itch’’ or
‘summer eczema’”’ is, however,
usually caused by a_ high
percentage of mixed pollen and
it ‘can be acute or chronic,
depending on the animal’s
exposure and residence. area.
Frequently, for example, the
family that spends some time in
the mountains or:at the seashore
will notice that their pet does not
suffer from the itching and eye
watering so common ‘at
home’’.
Therefore, during these
summer months, with so many
new grasses prevalent, it is wise
to contact your local
veterinarian and check on
treatment for animal hay fever
and other ~allergy-type
conditions that might cause
extreme discomfort.
The most effective treatment
is to give the pet an injection of a
cortisone derivitive. This
combined with oral treatment
(pills) can be effective for most
animals all during the hay fever
season. And, of course, pets
benefit, as do humans, from the:
filtered air control units that are
now in use in private homes.
While examining your pet, the
veterinarian is also checking for
“allergic rhinitis’’ (irritation of
nasal linings) and ‘allergic
otitis” (irritation of ear linings)
for foxtails or other irritants
that might have been ingested.

The championship heavyweight battle between Dempsey and
Gibbons, at Shelby; Montana, aroused keen interest in Grass
Valley. Some 30 fans went to the home of Phillip Keast on Lower
Mill Street, to listen to his powerful radio receiver bring in the
blow-by-blow account with surprising clarity from the Hale Bros.
Station in San Francisco. It was deemed entirely probable that a
half-million persons within the sending range of that station heard
the excellent broadcasting of the great sports event.
