Farm Safety Week Slated-For July 23 29 BERKELEY ---Moving machinery on the farm accounted for the greatest number of fatal accidents on California farms during 1960, Norman Liddell, Rural Safety Committee Chairman for the Califotnia Farm Bureau Federation the State’s largest farm organization, discloses in announcing July 23 29 as National Farm Safety Week, Over the last ten years records show a fatal accident total of 354 deaths dueto machinery and the majority of these accidents occurred to farmers in the 60 to 64 age group. In the overall fatal accident totals for farm accidents some 1,078 men and women met death during the years between 1949 and 1959, according to Liddell. Because the farmer and his family are so vitally concerned and involved in this matter, President John F. Kennedy has declared this 18th annual National Farm Safety Week to be devoted to safety as a family affair. "California farms will wage an all-out assault on rural accidents for the comLiddell states, “However, it should be made clear that farm safety or any other safety program is not, just a matter tobe considered one week ina year but must be stressed every day of every week all year every year. 15 Graduate : Naval Air MEMPHIS..
