Welcome home Bea. *XEXER OR EX ** ‘ Mrs. Rosa Christensen is spending the week with her daughter Mrs. Evelyn Sandland in Bakersfield. She will be home for the June meeting of her Eastern Star Chapter after which she will return to the Southland to visit with her other daughter Mrs. Velda Payson of Anaheim, On July 7 they will fly to Hawaii for a few days and will return home by way of Alaska where they will spend some time with friends of the Paysons. *#*€##*R YR KEKEK* The Kenneth Caldwells of the Bay Area retired to Rough and Ready last week with their trailer, They are building a new home on Hilair Acres Road. The Caldwells are not young in years but they are starting life here as newlyweds. 2 ; *R*EeCER ZR EK E* ‘ George is recovering nicely thanks to four days at the vets and the skill of his mistress Mrs. T. B. (Marie) Broadus, ’ George is a little dog belonging to the’ Broadus family. He attacked a rattler several weeks ago and of course the rattler struck back, George stood his ground however and to keep him from getting hit again Marie had to get her trusty pistol and let the old snake have it right between the eyes. Can't imagine Marie with a pistol, She is more the Magnolia BlosSom type and should be holding a dainty china teacup. HEXREER ORR E Mrs, Dwight. Grace) Nelson is at the Sierra Nev.da Memorial Hospital recovering from a possible heart attack suffered last Wednesday morning. *¥ee KER BR Ke Et Mrs, William (Clara) Bursill is undergoing extensive tests to try to find out how to get her back to her normal exhuberant self and into community activities again. Could her problem have anything to do with the fact that she is to be a grandmother again soon, I wonder. Mr, and Mrs, Robert (Penny) Brooker are anticipating a blessed event in the spring. This will be number one for the Brookers but it seems to me its number 8 for the Bursills. **FEER BR KH * William Lloyd Eddy, member of one of the families that mighty good eating. developed this area, died a week ago Monday after.a brief Y flimess. Mr, Eddy, was; born in Nevada City 81 years ago. He has not been to well for several years. The Eddys -{ eélebrated’ their 50th wedding anniversary several years ago on the ranch on Indian Springs Road where they started their married life: Mrs. Avis Eddy was born in the Indian Springs _ area, Mr. Eddy is also survived by a daughter, two sons, and two grandchildren. : KKKEER OR KKK * Mrs. Sadie ‘Martel Ryan, also a. descendant of one of Rough and Ready's original families and now living in Redwood City, recently spent a week visiting family and friends here. : *¥*¥*KEER OR * *** * The Blacksmith Shop crew worked at the firehouse recently except for Allan McCrea and young Nick Vogt who retraced and repainted the old sign "W. H. Fippin General Blacksmith", W. H. (Bill) Fippin was the oldest ‘son of the original Blacksmith John Fippin Sr. Last week work was started on the front of the building. Broadus, bass, croppie, and blue gill are plentiful at Englebright and-make ¥*¥*EER GR Eee *F _ Mrs. John Reininger, mother of Big John of Rough and Ready, is at Nevada General Hospital undergoing therapy treatments, *¥*¥***R QR ***** “Steven Nightengale-is home from Germany where he was stationed’ for most of his. thtee years in the service. Mrs. Henry (Joan) Nightengale has had a good excuse for her two visits to the hospital this year. With the oldest son Steve in ‘ Germany and young son: Dave (20) due to go, mother was sure to worry. Dave has to report again in February, 1971. . : KEEFER ER EH et It was. wonderful that Rough and Ready could provide a nice place to invite the Historical Society Tour of Trailer visitors from the fairgrounds to stop last Saturday. Some 25 to 30 cars and 50 some guests had cold lemonade and home made cookies, provided by the Rough and Ready Chamber,
while they rested at. the Grange Hall and listened to Brig. Gen Dreyer tell the story of the old Bridgeport Bridge. Things to see and do in Rough and Ready and some tidbits of its history were related by historical society representative Mrs. Hugh (Fay) Dunbar. The ladies of the Chamber wore pioneer oe in honor of their Secession Day celebration set for June 28, * , due for NC Chamber The Nevada City Chamber of Commerce will be restructured financially with dues to be charged iri the future according to the amount. of benefit each ~ group, organization or business . receives from the chamber. A meeting of chamber officers was held Wednesday evening to discuss the poor present financial condition. Willard Rose, Chris Schaaf and John Gallegos were appointed to a financial committee to restructure the dues schedule. A membership committee was appointed by President George Brooks: Tom Owens, Gene Rial and Brooks, The chamber officers were tary Ruby Nobles and discussed hiring her full time instead of ficers will ask City Attorney William Wetherall if a portion of the city's. contribution to the chamber listed as promotion money may be used to pay Mrs, Nobles' salary. es Two local boys. get degrees Richard Lee Jensen and David Arthur Medlyn, both of Grass. Valley, are among the 3,128 students of Brigham Young University who received diplomas last week.
