Many stories lie behind the 72 diplomas presented on Wednesday to students at the con. tinuation high school. One concerns a2 woman who quit high school in 1917 when her mother died, She completed requirements for her high school diploma while in her 60s "just 4 so she could graduate," the wo« man told-Chuck Slattery, one of the Empire High teachers. The precious diploma will go with her to the grave, she said. Another young student at the high school "split" from the regwhen he lost interest, He wanted to enter the service and he did. After he completed his basic training he returned tothe Golden Empire, but not for a visit; Randy Williams receives his diploma from Dr. C.
