Waltermire explained to

Robert Wayne Kenyon, 63,
Nevada City charged with being
drunk in a public place was
given 30 days in jail with sentence suspended.
Joseph Creston Novak, 27,
Nevada City, pleaded guilty to
being drunk in a public place.
Fined $12.

receives high award
Ft. Bragg, N.C.--Army
Specialist Four James C. Smith,
20, son of Mrs. Katherine W.
Smith, Grass Valley, was
awarded the Expert
fantryman Badge ~ while
i to the 82nd Airborné
Division, Ft. Bragg, N.C. The
badge is the Army’s highest noncombat proficiency award for
infantrymen.
Spec. Smith qualified for the
award through proficiency in
combat tactics, weapons firing
and physical fitness tests. He
also passed a series of written
examinations.
He is a mortar gunner in
headquarters company, Ist
Ballalion of the Division’s 508th
Infantry.
His father, Dennis E. Smith,
lives in Marysville.
Spec. Smith’s wife, Norma,
resides at 126 Capitol Drive,
Lake, N.C.
Activated in August 1917, the
82nd Airborne Division par‘in three major offensives in World War I. The
renowned Sgt. Alvin C. York
served under its colors.. °
As the nation’s first airporne
division, the ‘All American’
fought from Sicily to Central
‘Europe in World War II Division
members earned three medals
of honor. i
The division's 3rd brigade was
deployed to. Vietnam in
February 1968. The brigade
returned to Ft. Bragg, ‘N.C.,
Dec. 12, 1969. :
Sheep-killing
dogs sought
The Nevada City Police
Department is seeking sheep
killing dogs who attacked their
victims in a pen at 228 B Street.

One of the animals, owned by
Alan Brooks, was so badly. injured it had to be destroyed. Theother will recover, according to
the police report. The attack
was reported at 7 a.m. Sunday:
