Go-Kart
Rage Hits”
County
The Go-Kart rage has hit
Nevada County, for sure.
The county planning commission Monday night approved the land use application of Bob Winkle and John
DeMatteo for a new Go-Kart
track on Brunswick Road near
the Grass Valley-Nevada
City highway. The operation
will be limited to daylight
hours,
Atthe same meeting, the
commission heard a letter of
complaint from Elwood Ellinger of Colfax Highway,
describing the construction
of a new, presumably private, Go-Kart track on the
Foster land west of the highway near the You-Bet Road,
Residents of the area are fearful the noise will disturb the
peace and depreciate land
values, Theletter was turned over to the district attorney's office for investigation.
Several commissioners
praised the challenging outlet for interested youngsters.
The track has already been
constructed, Winkle said he
plans to hold Sunday competitions as well as Saturday
and possibly Wednesday aftermoon sessions.

NEVADA CITY---Nearly 2000 people lined Nevada City

agree it was a great success.

Riders and residents agreed the one mile course down
around and up Nevada City streets was a tough one. The
riders, from experience, called it the toughest in the
United States. Only a few could think of one to match
it.
But the turns and the hills offered a challenge, and the
riders left Nevada City talking about "next year” with a
a hopeful look in their eyes and determination in their
hearts.
The crowd held its breath as some 40 racers came pumping down Broad Street as the race started. Then as the
racers began to spread out, the crowd picked their man
and began to clap and cheer.
