15 nominated to serve on Liberal Arts board The. nominating committee appointed. by the Liberal Arts Commission of Nevada County will present to the membership Monday at 7:30 p.m., in the Old Nevada Theatre, a slate of candidates for eleetion to the board of directors. In accordance with the recently enacted by-laws, the board of directors will be increased to 15 members. Hereafter, at each annual meeting five new members will be elected for a term of three years to fill the vacancies created by the retiring five members of the board. The: 15 candidates to be presented by the nominating committee Monday evening are as follows: 1, W. Lon Cooper, a member of the city council of Nevada City, retired from the Los Angeles Police Depatment, and now manager of the State Department of Motor Vehicles in Auburn. 2 George r Elisworth, a member of the restoration committee of the Liberal Arts Commission, a retired mathmatics and drama teacher and rancher. He has worked under Dr. Thomas in amateur theatricals at Sacramento State and has served as director of the Golden Drama Guild in Grass Valley. 3. LeRoy Geist, a steel building manufacturer and at present the. Laison Officer for the Liberal Arts Commission and the OEDP general committee, and also chairman of the Nevada County Airport Commission. 4, Isabel R. Hefelfinger, a charter member of the Liberal Arts Commission and at present a board member and vicc president of the commission, A retiredpublic health nurse, a board member of the Nevada County Historical Society, chairman for the Historical Museum in Nevada City, Mrs. Hefelfinger is also president of the Nevada City Womens Civic Club. 5. Violet .A. Howard, a-businesswoman in Nevada City who served two years as secretarytreasurer of the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce. 6. Norma L. Lewis, a board member of the Liberal. Arts Commission and a business owner in Nevada City since 1956. She has been actively involved with "Music Man" and "Kiss Me Kate", produced by Friends of the Theatre, a former board member and Secretary of the Hollywood Hairfashion Council and three year member of the Hair Fashion Council of California. 7. Fred K. Meyers, a business educator, teaching bookkeeping, and office practice also serving as the head of the business department at Nevada Union High School. For many years he was accountant for all student activity funds. 8. Dr. Arch McPherson, a charter member of the Liberal Arts Commission and at present a board member and president of the Commission. An Orthodontist in Grass Valley, he is also a council member and former mayor of Nevada City. 9, Harold Nye, a banker and present manager of the Bank of America, Mill Street Branch in Grass Valley and a past President of both the Grass Valley and Nevada County Chambers — of Commerce. 10. David S. Osborne, acharter members of the Liberal Arts Commission, who now serves on the restoration committee and is active in the field of public relations for the commission, A commercial artist and designer, he is also a business owner in Monterey and Nevada City.11, Beryl P. Robinson, Jr., city manager of Nevada City and a former business owner in Nevada City. 12. John Dean’ Ross, at present 4 board member of the Liberal Arts Commission, a special education teacher in Grass Valley and an active member of the Community Players. 13. Charles-Sailor, at present "a board member of the Liberal Arts Commission and a business owner in Grass Valley. 14. Lucile Sheffel, a member of the planning commission of Nevada City, a business owner since 1961, and for the past five years chairman of the Chamber of Commerce Trade . 15. Shirley Willey, special convention faeilities and communications . consultant for the Fairmont Hotel in San Francisco, -a business owner in Nevada “City, television commentator and co-chairman of the 1969 Liberal Arts Commission Antique Show. Camping report from Tahoe National Forest _ This is the camping report from the Tahoe National Forest for this weekend. Weather has been cold with rain. Outlook is for clearning and warmer. Streams, rivers and lakes remain high and clear. INTERSTATE 80 — Hampshire Rocks and Cold Springs CG's. open. Woodchuck and Sterling.Lake CG's still closed (Road washed out). HWY. 49 — Lincoln Creek CG and Yuba Pass CG closed due to snow. Ramshorn CG closed (due to construction work). SIERRA BUTTES AREA — Gold Lake open. Snag Lake and CG is open, FRENCH MEADOWS RESORT AREA — Road and CG's. open including Lewis CG, which has minimum facilities and no running water. Talbot CG still closed. JACKSON MEADOWS RESORT AREA — CG is open with limited facilities no running water. Roads to Jackson
Meadows from Bowman Lake and Webber Lake are both very muddy and use of these roads are not recommended. We encourage campers to not visit Jackson Meadows for another week to allow the roads to dry out. Wednesday, June 18, 1969 The Nevada County Nugget 9 GEORGE BROOKS, center, was installed for a one-year term as president of the Nevada City Chamber of Commerce at a banquet Saturday. Brooks, classified advertising manager for The Union, has been serving as president for several months, having moved up from vice president in mid-year, Now, he begins his regular term with H. L. (Babe) Childers as vice president. Brooks is shown with Lynn Bramkamp Jr., left, and Willard Rose who were honored at the dinner for their work on behalf of the N.C. Chamber. Our Servicemen VIETNAM (FHTNC) — Marine Private First Class Patrick M. McLaughlin, son of Mr. and Mrs. Thomas J. McLaughlin of 226 S, Church St., Grass Valley, Calif., participated in Operation "Oklahoma Hills" against the enemy in Vietnam. The operation was conducted by the First Marine Division to find the enemy and destroy their capability to strike against the Danang area. His unit is also engaged in a civic aetion program designed to assist the Vietnamese people in completing self-help projects, such as the building of wells, culverts, small bridges and schools. Equipment and materials are made available through the Marine Corps Reserve Civic Action Fund. * K & U. S. ARMY, VIETNAM (AH TNC) — Army Private First Class Cliff Engstrom, 19, son of Mr. and Mrs, Carl Engstrom, Route 1, Nevada City, Calif., was assigned April 23 to the Americal Division in Vietnam. * U. S. ARMY, VIETNAM (AHT NC) Army Private First Clags Fred L, Dalton, 19, son of Mrs. Jessie M. Bennette, 55 Butterfly Drive, Nevada City, Calif., was assigned to the Americal Division in Vietnam, April 26, as a light-weapons infantryman, His father James A. Dalton, lives at 13112 Montague St., Arleta, Calif. * BIEN PHUOC, VIETNAM (AB TNC) — Army Sergeant Michael D. Wilbur, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs, D. P. Wilbur, Route 1, Grass Valley, Calif., received the Bronze Star Medal April 28 near Bien Phuoc, Vietnam. st Wilbur received the awarc for heroism in action while engaged in ground operations against a hostile force in Vietnam, A member of Company C, 2c Battalion of the 9th Infantry) Division's 47th Infantry, Set. Wilbur entered the Army ir February 1968. * ** TERRE HAUTE, Ind. Joh G. Murphy, son of Mr. and Mrs. Girard M. Murphy of 201 Norlene Way, Grass Valley, Calif., has been promoted to sergeant in the U. S, Air Force. Sergeant Murphy is asecurity policeman at Hulman Field, Ind., in a unit of the Aerospace Defense Command. The sergeant, a graduate oi North Hollywood (Calif.) High School, attended Woodbury Col. lege, Los Angeles. * Mr. and Mrs. James O. Ander son, Route 2, Grass Valley, Cal ifornia, is assigned to the 52n Artillery Group in Vietnam as cannoneer. * * Jack Lee Hochstedler, son of Mr. and Mrs, Richard D; Hochstedler of Rough and Ready has enlisted in the U. S. Navy and is now undergoing recruit training in San Diego, California. Jack is a graduate of Nevada Union High School of Nevada City, Calif. *** ; FT. BENJAMIN HARRISON, Ind., Pfc, Leslie Eileen Lynch, has completed the Pay Disbursing Specialist Course atthe U.S, Army Finance School, Fort Benjamin Harrison, Indiana. The purpose of this course is to provide personnel with 2 knowledge of the methods anc procedures used in the maintenance of financial data records and in the preparation, examination, and computations of vouchers pertaining to entitlements, and in accounting for receipts and payments by Finance Disbursing Officers. Private First Class Lynch is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Elton C, Lynch, of 352 East Main St., Grass Valley, Calif. A 1968 graduate of Nevada Union High School in Grass Valley, she went immediately into the Women's Army Corps. She entered the U. S. Army in December of 1968 and completed her basic at Fort McClellan, Alabama. She was last stationed with the Clerical Training Company at Fort McClellan, Alabama. simplicity .
