K * * * * "id This is the time of year for out of town guests . Everyone is either having them or taking advantage of the season to be one somewhere else. Mrs, Gene (Jane) Walter and their three little daughter Annamarie, Barbara, and Carolyn are spending the week in Southern California. Gene had to stay home to tend the store . Mrs, Walter is attending the wedding of her favorite niece at Upland, California, * * ; * * * * The Joseph Lees are on cloud 9. Their son Joseph C. Lee and his wife Shery and their son Donald from Albany Oregon are expected any day. The oldest daughter Mrs. Sandra Crow and her husband Kenneth and their children Anita and Byron are here from Astoria, Oregon, For the first time in many years the busy families are having a real visit. Surprise of the get together is that the overlap of vacations was not planned and will be a surprise for the newest visitors. The Lees oldest son Burton and his bride Sandra were married in Rough and Ready a couple of years ago. * * * * * Mrs. Conne Baer has her family home for a visit. Mr. and Mrs, Mike (Susan) Gage of Fairfield and their young daughter Visantha and Miss Marjorie Gage hav e been vacationing here. * * * * * * The Willis Perrys are home from vacationing along the California Coast and at Ruth Lake, Trinity County. This too was a family gathering. They visited daughter Mrs, Andy (June) Mueller and their grandchildren and even great grandchildren were vacationing there also. * * * * * * The Scott Lichts have their children and grandchildren home for a-short visit. Daughter Mrs. Diane Woolever and her husband Don and sons Darrick and Darrin are visiting. Son Larry and his wife Beverly and their children Gregor and Lori have all been enjoying the countryside this past week. Young people bring a lot of excitement into our lives. Lori loves horses and even tho' we don't have any at the moment so do I, Lori and her family will be by to see little Stu. Stu is for stupid because as a baby lamb he would not learn to depend upon mama for his food. They will be surprised to find he is not a lamb any longer. When finally learned about mama he really went to town and has outgrown some of the older members of the flock. * * * * * * Mrs, Tom (Patsy) Van Der Leum has her foot in a cast from recent surgery. She has to miss the fun her friend Mrs. Kenneth (Sheila) Bartley had planned for her as one of the Dance Hall Queens in our bit of Secession Day Melodrama. Mr. Van Der Leum is working in Chico presently and things are kind of busy at home. The Van Der Leums are residents of Rough and Ready Road and teach in our area schools, * * * * * * Mrs. Lee (Twyla) Lemargie spent a few days in Hayward California last week visiting her daughter. She was seeing her off for her home in Arizona. Mrs, Lemargie has been quite ill with a very severe cold. * * * * * * Gerard D, Baerman recently of New Greenwich, Connecticut has suffered a severe heart attack. Baerman married Helene Uurlbut of our community last Valentines Day and became a welcome addition to our community at that time. He has been at the Veterans Hospital in Reno for several weeks and is still undergoing tests and treatment, With the tourist season in full swing the shop is so busy that Helene is finding Reno is a long ways away. * * * * * ' * Jack Schaffer former resident of Rough and Ready and his family were recent visitors here. They had a nice visit with Mrs. Scheave of the little Wedding Chapel. Everyone visits our unofficial Rough and Ready Hostess, Mrs, Lisetta Scheave. Lisetta enjoys extrolling the virtues of our community and does a very interesting job of it. Maybe thats one reason so many former residents eventually come home to stay. * * * * * * The Chamber officially greeted our new business people the Charles Tangers from Hawthorne, California at last Board meeting. The Tangers have taken over the Country Store and the Arco Station from the Allen McCreas. Mary Ann Tanger, the lovely lady with the beautiful blue eyes is a-sister of Mrs. Dorothy Nunnick of Nevada City. Mary Ann will run the store. Mr. Tanger will tend the Station , etc, I added the etc. because of the horrible grinding he coaxed out of my car the other day. Technically, the starter wouldn't disengage. All I know is the horrible noise stopped and it, got me to the Malakoff ok, Saw several Rough and Ready people there including the Orin Browns and grandchildren and Art Phelps busy distributing Homecoming Day programs. St. Columcilles Church is beautiful. See it some day and see what an adjunct a historical restoration, maybe of our old Blacksmith Shop when we can get _the required five feet on the West side, could mean to our community, We invited everyone ~~ in sight to attend our Secession Day Celebration. Learned that Clamper, Historian, Hal Goodyears great Grandfather came to Rough and Ready to make his fortune in 1853, His grandfather was born here, Small Wor!d! By ELSIE DILLBERG After our cool weather of a week ago, summer has descended upon us with very warm days and nights, The fire danger will be extremely bad this year since we've had so little rain, Might be a wise idea to remind young children of the danger of play' ing with matches. Rattlesnakes are another danger and I've heard of several instances of people killing them already. * ** The Penn Valley Fire Department Auxillary held a luncheon Wednesday put on by the Ladies League luncheon, Neiva Millard, who is moving to New York, was presented a corsage and a certificate of appreciation from the Auxillary. Mary had not seen them in 18 years, They camped overnight at the Grand Canyon and they saw the Petrified Forest and the Painted Desert. In Denver, Colorado they visited with two of Mary's foster brothers, John and Leonard Didlott. While there, they also took in the tour of the Coors Brewery. In Golden, Colorado they saw the burial place of Buffalo Bill, Hoover Dam was another point of interest and in Las Vegas they took Troy to the Circus, Circus Casino, the only one Mary says, that allows minors.
