4 The Nevada County Nugget Wednesday, June 21, 1972 Dedication set Friday for new park at Tahoe SACRAMENTO--One of the state parks system's newer campgrounds, Sugar Pine Point State Park at Lake Tahoe, will be formally dedicated Friday, June 23, at 3 p.m. The dedication is being cosponsored by the Lake Tahoe State Parks Advisory Committee and the State Park’and Recreation Department, and will be held at the park's General Creek Campground, ten miles south of Tahoe City on State Highway 89, The program will include a presentation of colors by Boy Scout Troup 222 of Kings Beach, invocation by Rev, Leonard shaheen of St. Nicholas Episcopal Church in Tahoe City, and addresses by dignitaries and officials, including California State Park and Recreation Commission Chairman Lowell Berry, Department Deputy Director Ray Hunter, and Advisory Committee past chairman David Stollery II. After the program, a tour of the facilities at the park will be conducted. The campground at Sugar Pine Point State Park was first opened to the public last year, It offers not only regular summer camping, but winter camping as well with heated restrooms and plowed parking areas. There are 175 campsites in the park, each with a table and stove, and with restrooms and hot showers nearby. ‘Take stock in Riosvica Buy U.S. Savings Bonds & Freedom Shares Fathers were honored throughout the county with breakfasts, dinners and picnics galore on Sunday. Anne and Logan Knox and their children, Kevin and Heather, visited his uncle Robert Knox over on . Burma Road. * * There is a new "baby " in Cedar Ridge at Sally Cooper's house. Calico's "Junebug" was born on June 9. Sally's P.O.A, mare, "Walnut's Trinket,"" is the mother; 'Toyon Tigre"from Auburn is the sire, On her trip south last weekend Sally purchased a P,O.A. stallion, "Rex's Red Baron" from the Blue Ribbon Ranch in Culver City. She also bought "Chiricahua's Siri Miss," amare from the. P,O.A, Ranch in Pomona; and a filly, "Klein's Stardust" from the sale in Pomona. * ok Everybody knows that cats have nine lives, but what about old fire-trucks? There is anew life for the old Chicago Park pumper, vintage 1943. The commission released the truck for sale several months ago. Last week Chief Carl Bauch and his wife Jane delivered the pumper to its new owner, Don Trotter, who will use it for irrigating fruit trees. Enroute they picked up a Navy boy who was hitchhiking out MecCourtney Road. At the Folsom meet Saturday Bob Baumgart took three firsts; Bette Baumgart five firsts and Cynthia Moler four firsts, The Penguins will swim in a meet with Winters this Saturday, at 9:15 a.m, at Memorial Park Pool. * KK The Nevada County AirPark was doing a land-office business this week. Saturday, 80 pilots and their families flew in for a conference at Northstar Center. Sunday, two Forestry tankers the "borate bombers" as they are called, and two other air-craft were flying in and out of the field fighting the forest fire in Brown's Valley. * Ok Rob Moore, Pug Phelan, Virginia Mintor and Dan Nielsen won five out of eight matches in a Swiss Team Bridge Tournament held in Sacramento last week, * OK Lorene Grassick, leader of Girl Scout Troop #38 has 12 new girls. During the summer the troop will meet on Wednesday morning at the Scout House in the Memorial Park, The girls are having success with their recycling project. They are collecting glass and aluminum. Items may be left at the Scout House Wednesday mornings, Lisa Niver and Jill Harner of Cedar Ridge helped smash cans and sort glass. The group is planning a camping trip to Emerald Bay the last week in June. The senior scouts of Troop #612, the cadets, will tour Lake Tahoe by by canoe. Zoe Schuckert is their leader. Sherry Grassick is giving them leader and training service for junior leader trainees, %* OK OK Brenda Dayton's mother, Marian Shannon and a friend were in town to visit Brenda and Jerry last Friday. Millie Mills will be the hostess for a potluck luncheon in her garden the first Wednesday in July.
