Lo SSG N Bt ANE LLP F~ 1 danse manana snc “ance of the session, “John C. Wells, Principal. THE DAILY TRANSCRIPT, NEVADA CITY, CAL., SUNDAY, JANUARY 16, 1887. Bue Daily Transcript. cincy LATES IN ee Gi the. man Walley, Fancy a Ready, nch. CorSweetland, North Bloomfield, Moore’s Granite 4 Rpm y and every other town of Nevad also ingPlacer and Sierra counties, at at ramento, Sari Francisco—i n cn throughout the State Font meen" hae n Diego, fromthe Si> Published Daily (Mondays excepted) by —BROWN & CALKINS-—— OFFICE: « No. $2 Commercial street; Nevada City, Cal. ADDING INSULT TO INJURY. The mountain has harbored and bronght forth a mouse. The great and good George Ohleyer, who was ~'elected to the Legislature from the county of Sutter with a, flourish of trumpets, has introduced a bill to tighten the cinch that the anti-miners have for years been weaving around the hydraulic mining industry. It proposes that in case of a secénd convittion for contempt of court (the fine is now $500 or less for each offence) the fine imposed for the first offense shall be doubled, and it may be accompanied by imprisonment fora period not to exceed six months. The same individual -has put —in—another bill declaring that the posting of a summons on the premises of a hydraulic mine or giving it to anyone connected: with the management thereof, is sufficient service of thé document. Mr. Ohley-' er will have something to do.that will keep him out-of mischief for the balThere is no rea necessity for such laws as hydraulicing business is among the’ things that were, and there are probably enough brains and honesty assembled in the Senate and Assembly to prevent time being wasted in enacting them, But some show of activity must be képt up by the anti-miners, or else the officers of the Anti-Debris Asseciation and their friends whom-they keep employed as spies will find their present sinecures gone, and be put to the necessity of earning an honest and decent livelihood. MAR YSVILLE’s OPPORTUNITY. The Transcript remarked not long ago that the business interests of the town of Marysville had received a severe blow by the stoppage of hydraulic mining which action had impoverished and in a great méasure depopulated a once thriving section of country which in its palmy days contributed largely by its patronage to Marysville’s support. The Appeal does not attempt to deny the statement, the truth of which is apparent to all. who have had an opportunity to observe the course of events in this connection. It, ‘claims, however, that the construction and operation of the Nevada County Narrow Gauge railroad inflicted upon Marysville more injury than anything else that has happened. This may not be true, and again it may. But at any rate the road has cut off a large portion of Marysville’s mountain traffic and will capture most of ‘what little remains when it is extended from this city to North San Juan as it is quite likely to be at some time in the future. There is one chance for Marsyville to recover some of the vantage ground it has lost, and that is by building a railroad from there to this city. Such a road would penetrate one of the fairest and most productive portions of California, now but sparsely settled and only slightly improved in any way; and unite as Siamese twins two towns that need to get better_acquaintedfor their mutual good. —_———————— Axg you made miserable by indigestion, Congtipation. A few minutes past 7 o’clock Thursday’ evening some fiend placed a bomb on the cable track on Post street, near Larkin, in San Francisco, which exploded beneath a dummy with disastrous effect, wrecking the dummy and hurling the passengérs violently to the ground. One lady passenger received injuries which may terminate fatally to herself and her unborn child. Several arrests were made and the belief is universal that the infamous outrage was perpetrated by some of the strikers of the Sutter and Gearystreet-roads. Shortly after the explosion on the Larkin-street branch another explosion took place on the main line of the same road on Sutter street, between Dupont and Stockton, which fortunately did rot nomin:1 damage.
