NOTICE OF ELECTION
Notice is hereby given that on
Tuesday, the 21st day of July,
1964, a special election will be
held for the purpose of submitting
to the qualified electors of the
territory hereinafter described the
following proposition, to-wit:
That it is proposed to annex, to
incorporate in, and makea part
of the City of Grass Valley, a
municipal corporation, the territory hereinafter described, and
the property therein, shall, after
such annexation, be subject to
taxation, equally with the property within said City of Grass
Valley, to pay its pro rata portion,
based upon assessed valuation, of
the bonded indebtedness of said
City of Grass Valley, hereinafter
referred to, outstanding at the
date of said annexation.
Said territory hereinabove referred to is that certain territory
situate in the County of Nevada,
State of California, specifically

Containing 37.771 acres.
Such territory so described shall
be designated as Grass Valley AnnexationDistrict No. 22, and
may be so referred to and indicated upon the ballots to be used
at the election at whichthe question of such annexation is submitted.
The improvements for which
the saidbonded indebtedness
above referred to was incurred
and authorized and the amounts
of such indebtedness heretofore
authorized and for which bonds
heretofore issued and the maximum amount of interest payable
on said bonds are as follows: City
of Grass Valley Sewer Bonds of
1949 authorized and issuedon the
1st day ofJuly, 1949, for the construction of a sewage disposal
plant and outfall sewers for the
City of Grass Valley. The original amount for which said bonds
were issuedon July 1, 1949, was
$398,000.00. The amount of
indebtedness on said bonds already incurred and outstanding at
this date is $245,000.00. The
maximum rate of interest pay~
able thereon is 2-3/4%.
The polls for said special elec ~tion shall be opened at 7 o'clock
A.M, on the day of said special
election and shall be kept open
until? o'clock P, M. of said day
when the polls shall be closed;
exceptthat if at the hour of
closing there are any voters in
the polling place, oF in line at
the door, who are qualified to
vote and who have not been able
to do so since appearing, the
polls shall be kept open a sufficient time to enable them to
vote, but no one who shall arrive at the polling place after 7
o'clock P.M. -of said day shall
be entitledto vote, although the
polls may be open when they arrive.
Upon the ballots to be used at
‘such election there shall be
printed the words "Shall Grass
Valley Annexation District No.
22 be annexed to, incorporated
in, and made a part of the City
of Grass Valley, and the property therein be, after such annexation, subjecttotaxation,
equally with the property within
saidcity of Grass Valley, to pay
its pro-rata portion, based upon
assessed valuation, of the following bonded indebtedness incurred for the acquisition, construc~
tion or completion of municipal
improvements, to-wit: City Grass
Valley Sewer Bonds of 1949, outstanding at the date of said annexation. " Opposite these words
there shall be printed the words
"Yes" and "No" and to the right
of each of these last two words
there shallbe a voting square. If
an elector shall stamp a cross (X)
in the voting square after the
printed word “Yes” the vote of
such elector shall be counted in
favor of the annexation; if an elector shall stamp a cross (X) in
the voting square after the printed word “No” the vote of such
elector shall be counted against
the annexation.
That for the purpose of holding
and conducting said special election hereby called one voting
precinct designated "Grass Valley
Annexation District No. 22 Precinct" is hereby established and
the place at which the polls will
be opened in said new territory is
hereby established and designated and the following named
election officers therefor are
hereby appointed, to-wit:
"Grass Valley Annexation District No. 22" election precinctcomprising all that territory
hereinabove described and coextensive therewith.

That the officers of election
shall receive such compensation
for their services as follows:

An all-time California Division
of Highways safety record, set in
1963, was shared in recent ceremonies by the north valley-mountain Highway District Ill which
has its headquarters in Marysville.
Ttre achievement was honored
when District Engineer Alan S.
Hart, representing the district 's
1,400 employees, was presented
with a special certificate by L.R.
Gillis, assistant state highway
engineer of Sacramento, in rec>
ognition of the lowest index of
lost-time accidents for the year
of any of the division's 11 districts,
The frequency rate of 2. 20 losttime accidents per million manhours is the lowest in the history
of the Division of Highways. The
Stockton district tied with the
same rate. Index for the other
nine districts ranged from 7.20
to 12.83 with an averageof
10.94,
Atthe same time Hart was presented with a plaque in recognition of one million man-hours free
of accidents. The Marysville dis~trict isthe only one to have re —
ceived this award twice.
The ceremonies took place in
Sacramento during a regular
monthly safety meeting at which
time Hart presented certificates
of merit to a number of Sacramento area highway maintenance foremen for various lengths
of time without lost -time accidents in their crews.
Four resident engineers received awards for 11 years each--E.
F. Silva of Broderick, J. W.
Hunter of Roseville, M.G. Coburn
of Loomis, and T.M. Heather of
Grass Valley.

will accept bids for the replacement of the roof of the Nevada
City Library, located at North
Pine and Washington Streets,
Nevada City, California, said
roof to be made of fire chex
shingles (flexible asbestos), or
rigid asbestos shingles of Pabco
quality or better.
Any person interested in bidding on this job may examine the
building and submit a bid to the
Nevada City Library Board, in
care of the undersigned Secretary.
