retain their
two pastors
There were no changes in the
assignment of pastors at the
local United Methodist Churches
at the annual conference for
California and Nevada congregations held recently in Stockton,
The Rev. Noel E. Carden was
reassigned to the Grass Valley
church for another year and
the Rev. Haven Martin to the
Nevada City church for his second year,
The conferees completed the
union of former Methodist and
Evangelical United Brethren
churches to United Methodist
Churches, a plan previously approved which has taken a number of years to complete.

Vets’ checks
for $655,000
are returned
Some 7,500 checks worth about
$655,000 were returned to. the
Veterans Administration last
month because of the failure of
veterans to notify both the VA
and the Post Office of their
change of address, according
to Gordon R, Elliott, manager
of VA's Northern California regional office.
In some instances, Elliott
Said, failure to receive a monthly
pension check or compensation
check from the VA creates a
hardship for the family or individual involved,
Veterans or their dependents
in receipt of VA benefits should
include zip codes with their
address changes, Elliott said.
VA offices will be found listed
in the white pagés of telephone
directories,

Motcrists will be delayed 5 to
10 minutes at a time weekdays
on State Highway 89 between
Truckee and the Squaw Valley
