The weeks activities came to a climax on Friday night when the children were special guests at a dress rehearsal of "An Evening with Victor Herbert" at the historic old Nevada Theatre. Don't forget the Grange Public Party Saturday night June 28, at 8 p.m. : ** * eprom tape vr rrer peer vein Wa Hs ek Gad dos Ds J Tax rate undetermined as income not known > Nevada county's. supervisors finished their preliminary round of budget studies Tuesday morning and learned a little later that approved expenses and reserves for next year now total $6,981,701, This is~an increase of $1,277,433 from the 1968-69 county budget. Auditor John T. Trauner presented the total, emphasizing that his figures Tuesday only represent the expenditure side. Income to partially finance the budget will not be known until July, so it cannot be determined yet whether the 1969-70 budget
will require a tax rate increase, decrease or about the same rate as this year's $2.48, Salaries take up almost half the total budget, $3,014,669, but maintenance is even higher at $4,417,221. However, this is reduced by’ $888,036 in cost applied. The fourth general category of.the budget is capital outlay which totals $117,023, Here are the_budget totals for each type of fund: — General fund -$5,382,846, up $768,234 from this year; accumulated capital outlay-$32,528, down $30,522; special road fund--$1,153,553, up $202,356; fish and game fund--$6,000 same; exploitation (promotion) fund--$38,200, up $900; special aviation--$47,750, up $16,120, The supervisors will give the 1969-70. expenditures another perusal in August, then will approve the document for the final time. This year's. budget sessions ital outlay items, including office equipment, The purpose was to shave enough to afford a pay raise which was granted county late April. At that time, the budget was $966,957 higher than this year's not counting salary increases, when the board finished its work Tuesday, the budget was $946,749 above this year's, with salary increases destined to push it still higher. That shouldn't indicate, however, that the supervisors were unsuccessful in whittling away at items. Many things were cut, but $100,000 was added to the general reserve Tuesday as a precaution against unforseen circumstances, That $100,000 naturally reversed on paper many of the decreases mad in earlier sessions. . , The biggest decrease made Tuesday was in the airport commission budget, which was lowered $11,438, placing it at this year's level. The board did that because there was no supporting evidence explaining requests for a part time clerk, professional services and an increase in special expense, There was even $500 for food, which T indicated the county could not finance, Here is a rundown of the budgets perused Tuesday: County dump animal -shelter $30,473, up $8,203 from this year. The board added $5,378 as its half share (Grass Valley pays the other half) of a four-wheel drive panel truck and anew employe, both for the animal shelter. Approval was conditional on getting Sierra county ‘into the animal shelter system. _ Home health agency -$103,640, a budget that was incorporated in hospital figures previously. All costs will be covered by revenue, This budget was reduced $663 and was approved 3-2 asaresult with Supervisors Dean Lawrence and Lou Hartman voting no, Supervisor William Thomas wanted to cut office equipment, but Hartman felt the agency, in a new location, would need: the equipment.
