HOME AGAIN,.Itishard to
beleive that one week ago we
were on our way to a World's
Fair. It seems that it was only
yesterday that we weretyping
on this Royal, looking forward to a bike race and ball
game in Nevada City.. But
back we are, and a week has
passed, Rested? No, but the
week was pleasant-especially
the days spent in Eugene,
Ore. , where family conversation blended with bicycle
riding (believe it or not, the
Thompsonswere pumping
bikes as midnight brought on
Father's Day, riding beneath
a-full moon that lit River
Loop Rd. along the Willamette River) and the fun of
seeing the two feminine
members of "we three” rise
from the water on skis. Vee

she was on top and riding
smoothly when an accidental
brush of the elbow flicked the
motor switch to the off position in the boat and Debby

THE FAIR. ..Back to work,
andto report on our reaction
tothe fair.. Had we realized
the chore that now faces us,
this writer never would have
promised to answer some
questions. .But promise we
did, and answer we will.
First some background so that
you may better understand
our answers, “Wethree”" spent
24 hours in the space of two
days inside the gates of the
Seattle World Fair. We became tiredand somewhat
cranky. We stood in line
many times, yet we avoided
between six and eight hours
of lines by making use of press

San Juanis still onthe map,
the homes are still there but
to find most of the townspeople one must go to the
river, There, you will find
mothers with small children,
waiting .for fathers to get off
work and join them, Tourists
ahd campers are thick on
Moonshine Beach and while
some of them may look a
little weird tothe natives (no
visor caps this year?) it can
work the other way too. What
would you think of five giggling young damsels slipping
into the icey green water on
. 4 moonlit night clad in billowing mu-mu's? Next time
girls, just for more effect you
should replace the giggling
and shrieking with some mysterious incantations or how
about a candlelit procession?

courtesies. There were a few
exhibits which we missed, but
every effort was made to see
the best of the fair. Our oriinal plans had called for
three days at the exposition,
With the equivalent of more
than 30 hours of time spent
inside the gates, we feel it
would be impossible to see
more in less than three days.
Enough background,
THE ANSWERS. .Is it worth
a trip to Seattle just to see
Century 21? Wewould say it
is not worth a special trip to
the fair. However, if someone in your family is extremely interested in Science
then the fair may be worth
the tripto that person. We'll
explain this to a greater extent when we get to discussing the exhibits, Also, you
might consider a vacation to
the Northwest where a visit
to the fair is only a part of
the vacation. In this event,
you could enjoy the beauty
of Washington and Oregon
andthe numerous interesting
sights without basing the success or failure of your trip on
the impression you get from
a fair visit. . .How about ExpoLodging? Century 21 and
Expo-L feel the reservations
agency for the fair is doing
an excellent job,: They point
to the fact that Expo-L has
been able to handle accommodations for the largest
crowds to visit Seattle. This
writer feels they are falling
short of their mark. More on
this later, too. This suggestion for now: If Possible,
make reservations well in advance, direct with the motel.
or hotel of your choice. If
this is impossible, make reservations through Expo-Land
arrive in Seattle about noon.
If the reservations do not suit
you, refusethem, and travel
north on Aurora Blvd until you
find a motel with the vacancy
sign out. There WILL be vacancies unless fair attendance
is above the 75,000 daily
nrark, A ten mile ride in
from the north is only about }
15 minutes from fair parking.
Many of the apartments being reserved through Expo-L
are at least that far away in
time because of downtown .
traffic.. .How about enter-OnSt TO COAST

tainment? If you are planning
on seeing the fair for the entertainment, don't go. Turn
around and head for Reno or
Las Vegas. (The exceptions
later).,.Are the lines too
long? The lines to the most
popular four exhibits range
from a minimum of one hour
to a maximum of three and
one half hours. They are too
long, and there is no good
reason for their existence.
But there is little hope that
the problem will be solved
this year. Perhapsthe answer
is the foursome we saw with
five folding chairs----they
used the fifth chair to play
bridge on while waiting in
line forthe Space Needle..
How about the exhibits? They
range from good to poor, But
too few are good, too many
are juvenile in their presentation. One feature of the
fairthat seems tobe acknowledged as worth the wait is the
Space Needle, Its view overlooking Seattle and Puget
Sound is worthy of a World's
Fair, TheSpace Needle will
be there for your enjoyment
afterthe fair closes, And we
wager the waiting line will
have vanished.
We'll follow Sunday with
additional comments on the
fair and more particularly on
some of the exhibits.

led one local resident to wonder if the alleged concern

whether the concern is for the

It Could Happen
On Your Vacation!
Smart burglars make hay
in vacation time. They
choose homes that look
vacant; pilfer at their leisure. When you leave on
vacation keep a couple
of small lamps burning;
stop milk and paper deliveries. And, most important, make sure your
possessions are protected with a_ blanket
burglary insurance policy, It costs so little.

Moonshine was the first alligator in those waters to be
lost. Owners, The Hatch's of
San Juan were aided by several small children and finally the grusomely adorable
little creature was found. I
suspect that all of the loving
attention he was receiving
made him long for the
swamplands of the south, at
any rate when I saw him he
was making as fast as his four
feet would go trying to hide
under the Stuart Baby's play
pen. Poor little ‘gator.
