A Family Reunion is
planned by the Kistles
for this Sunday, July
2nd, at Seamen's
Lodge in Nevada City
at 1:00 P.M.

Kistle werethe parents of twenty children, and the whole
family (including the
Parents) was born
within the area ofa
square mile in Nevada
City . The only member
of the family still residing in Nevada City
is Ollie Peterson, but
several other members
of the family still live
in the area in Grass
Valley.
The senior Kistles
have both passed away, as have the four
oldest sons,but the
remainder of the family will be present at
the reunion. This will
be the first time in
thirty-four years that
all of the family has
been able to get together.

This week. it's “all out" for Sunday's Secession Celebration in
Rough & Ready, It's almost impossible to get regular work on the
“also ran" list, All the committees are working like mad and except for a few loose ends everything's ready to go. One of the byproducts of the celebration will be a few less weeds around town
this year, Roy Bradley's new partner in the trailer park has had his
. big mower’ going, Work parties will meet each evening this week
Operation Cookie, the inspiration of Mrs, David Vonde Veld of
Penn Valley is continuing to send three pound coffee cannisters
packed with cookies to servicemen in Viet Nam. Pictured below
are some of the workers assisting in the 1st packaging bee. Information can be obtained by calling Mrs, Vonde Veld at 273-4013,

A couple of weeks ago I promised two new babies in Rough &
Ready, Last week I told you about the Boy expected at the Gene
Walters, The other one is to be an early Christmas gift for the
Dale Haines, Dale and Pat definitely have an order in for another
Girl, Present family is Shawn and Timothy and one little girl

Somehow, in all the excitement lately, I forgot to tell you our
new Highway signs "Entering Rough & Ready" are installed. They
were painted by a local sign company and are beautiful, Mr,
Richard Avery and son Bill and Mr. Jack Bixler got them up a
couple of weeks ago, Permission was given by Mr, Bill Matson, Sr,
of Grass Valley and Mr. Cecil Fidler of Martinez to locate the
signs on their property. "Entering" from the West is just where the
Highway crosses Squirrel Creek and “Entering” from the East is at
Ponderosa Way. Feast your eyes! .
The Rough & Ready Grange will hold "Open House", in the Historic old Hall built in 1857, for the Secession celebration on July
2, There is parking available there and also rest rooms, The ladies
of the grange will serve cool drinks, .
Mr, Manuel Alameda, whose family are part of the history of
Rough & Ready, is recuperating from surgery at Sierra Nevada
Memorial Hosp, Manuel was born in a house that stood where .
Squitrel Creek turns down Rough & Ready Ravine, In those days
there was no bridge. The house burned while Manuel was still
small,
Mrs, Maud Calvert, descendant of another of the community's
pioneer families, is visiting her sister and husband, Mr, and Mrs,
Gregory Fallas in Antioch,
Mr, and Mrs, David Ramey and young daughters, Michele and
Doreen, of Riverside just spent a couple o days of their vacation
with us, Time leaves its mark! I don’t remember their mother
having that much energy when she was their age,
The Rough & Ready Shopping Center and Trailer Park have new
owners, Mr, and Mrs, Omar Zumwalt are retiring. The new
Owners are Mr. and Mrs, Roy Bradley and Mr, and Mrs. Harold

There were many visitors from other clubs to observe. Rough &
Ready was the first club to hold Local Level Achievement Night.
This was only a beginning for the big County Achievement
Night last Saturday. Rough & Ready club made it again with an
All-Star and nine other county awards, Nevada County All Stars
S$ year are Linda Personini of the Kentucky Flat club and Kirk
Pharis of the Rough & Ready club, Other county awards brought
home were by Debby Bursill, Debby Peterson and Dave Siegfried
who were selected to attend ‘the Junior Leadership Conference and
Debby Peterson who was a Medalist Winner in Cooking, "Meg"
Sailor who was a Medalist with her sheep and Don Burkhard whowas the Electrical Medalist, County awards were won by Linda
‘Burkhard for her Reporter's Bock, by Debby BursilJ for her Canning,
Another first in Rough & Ready was won by Jack Bixler, Nevada
County selected, for the first time this year, the adult. who had
been the most help to 4-Hers throughout the county, Each club
turned in two names, Mr, E.L d

Almost forgot the most important thing, The cast for the Secession Playlet is Barbara Sailor as E, F, icidact. Ken Beatie as the
Bartender, Mary O'Neal as the "City Slicker", the Miners are Bill
Thomas, Helen Steele, Larry Filer, and Jim West, and the "Girls"
are Dora Grieme, Helen Beatie, Maciel Filer, Joan Mader, and
Helen Avery, Our piano Player is John Kartozian. Olyve Simmons
going to carry on with the Directing chore where Miriam Jensen
eft off. Miriam had to leave hurriedly on family affairs and the
cast will miss her, The props for the play are being supplied by
"Bill" Moranville of Grass Valley, Don't miss this melodrama, It ;
will be presented
