The cause of the blaze less than a mile from Graniteville and close to the scene of the big 1959 ‘‘Marsh Mill Burn” is under investigation. The fire had a bad potential if high winds had -been present, Chuck Welch, fire control officer of the Nevada City District Tahoe National Forest said. Welch credited retardant drops with confining the blaze to half an acre before ground help arrived, Six citizens from Graniteville and four members of the Highlanders, a 4-Wheel Drive Sacramento Club, aided TNF in fighting the fire. Main Street in Crass Valley..owned and operated by three progressive and knowledgeable men in their respective areas of interest. Crenshaw's houses the bondded Master Locksmith firm headed by Phil Crenshaw.. whose father, Ray Crenshaw, established the concern 40 years ago, in 1932; the gun shop, originally part of the Crenshaw interests, was purchased one year ago by Gene Wiley; and George Warren conducts a repair business dealing in large appliances, air conditioning, bicycles, lawn mowers, washing machines,
pumps and the like. The profession of locksmith is an extremely complex affair and growing more sowith time. At Crenshaw's all manner of locks and keys are made, sie EARS aE eect oe sold, repaired, installed in homes, hotels, motels, business establishments, apartments and both domestic and foreign vehicles of all types. Hundreds of key "blanks" are kept in stock, assuring the customer of rapid and efficient service; and a 24-hour emergency service is also maintained by the firm. Safe work is a specialty also. Phil's wife, Florence, is the competent bookkeeper..and when she is not engaged in that phase of the business she is involved in instructing in round dancing. Her principle affiliation in this fascinating recreation is the '"Tommy“knockers Dancing Club," Phil is an ardent sportsman. fishing and hunting are his primary interests; and he says that he "was propelled into golfing’ by George Warren. Warren's shop serves customers over a wide area as he handles a variety of appliance work, bicycle repairs. on both domestic and foreign models,.and other equipment as mentioned earlier in this article. He uses the latest approved methods in all of his work and processes his orders efficiently and with dispatch. George, whose great love is golf, also enjoys fishing and hunting whenever his busy work schedule permits. His. wife, Evelyn, is devoted to her work in the Christian Church. Gene Wiley, whose hobby was guns..and who turned that hobby into an absorbing and profitable business..stocks an impressive inventory of rifles and handguns,.and a line of handcuffs and other related items for use by law enforcement personnel, Wiley also trades guns and equipment related to their use, and buys certain models from private individuals. He says that .22's are his fastest selling models; .and that 30-30's and 30,06's are perhaps the most popular rifles for use in hunting in this region. He also does some repair work. Mrs, Wiley,.,Hortensia..is known in the area for her association with the Welcome Wagon and she is a concerned worker with area Girl Scouts. The three families reside in Grass Valley, where they all own their own homes and property. Crenshaw's is_ presently closed for a vacation period which will end on July 4th.. after the annual celebration. The store will be open for business as usual on July 5.
