Many were the
ments on the new offices of
Dr. C. O. Patterson at the
open house held at 122 West
Main Street Thursday.
Thistle-pink is the color
chosen for the plastered
walls and the lowered ceilings. with wood-rose trim.
Drapes of thistle-pink and.
beige harmonize with both
the decorations and the
new suite of refracting instruments all done in coral.
Many unique features of
the design of the two refracting. rooms give direct
vision in one while using
the second for delivering
and adjusting the patients’
glasses, giving orthoptic
muscle’ training and fitting .
contact lenses. In the field
of orthoptics, which is much
more than merely straightening crossed eyes, Dr. Patterson has pioneered for
most of his active practice.
He has taken postgraduate
work from Portland to New
York, although he avers
California leads the nation
in orthoptic advances. He
has read many original papers at visual training congresses, especially those
annually held at San Jose
and Pasadena.

Mo controversy exists. Everybody is for it. Whether
People have barbecue grills

this culinary honor, nothing
outranks chicken. This trend
become so general that
another word, Chick-N-Que,
bids fair to become established in our language.
The chicken deserves its
Popularity in the barbecue
pit. Its performance is eminently predictable: it will
always taste delicious grilled
outdoors, no matter what
barbecue sauce you select
to adorn it; it will always
fit in with any menu plan;
and it will always be easy
to serve and eat in an informal manner befitting the
informal _ surroundings.
Moreover, the National
Broiler Council reports that
broiler-fryers offer excellent nutrition. A serving of
chicken contains more protein than a comparable serving of almost any other
meat. Last and by no means
perior flavor for a low price.
When you decide on a
barbecue sauce, you have
an almost limitless choice
of seasonings and flavorings. Start with ‘a mixture
of corn oil and vinegar or
lemon juice, and proceed
from there ad lib. The oil
seals in the juices and the
vinegar or lemon _ juice
keeps the bird moist. According to your taste, you
ean add salt and pepper,
and let it go at that, or you
can add hot spices, herbs,
‘tomato sauce, sweetening,
onion, garlic, or any combination of these. This freedom of choice adds a welcome element of imagniation to barbecuing. Every
time you barbecue a chicken you can alter the sauce
and produce a slightly different result.
But, while barbecuing:

it has no clement of chance.
