These calendars cover birthdays and most local events for the year beginning June 1, 1968 and extending through May 31, 1969, They also help cover 4-H club expenses, "See your nearest 4-H'r today!" * kk & The Chamber of Commerce invites you to hear "Chuck" Sheeley, Americanism chairman, State Dept. of the American Legion, talk about our flag. Meeting will be held at the OLD Rough and Ready School Thursday June 13 at 7:30 p.m. Everyone is welcome. Chamber board meeting will follow the program, * ok Rough and Ready community news from now until after July 4 will be filled with "Secession". There are so many exciting things happening I can't keep up with them all, "Sandy" Farber just stopped by to leave the old Fippin anvil for us. Sandy's sorority at Chico State featured Lotta Crabtree in their recent celebration of Pioneer Days, and used the old anvil in the Rough and Ready scenes about ner life. Lotta gave her first performance on this anvil to the lusty cheers of a crowd of miners. She was ° 6 years old and the anvil had already made its famous covered wagon journey across the plains, One of our Secession Day plays this year will be this story. The "Poke" contains over 2 ounces of gold and the dolls reflect every era of the Gold Rush period. * ok * Two new additions to our community are Mr. and Mrs, Allen T. Bryant of Yuba City. They expect to build here soon. Both Mr. and Mrs. Bryant teach school, Unfortunately. they are all signed up for next term. * * * Another pair of newcomers to our community are Mr. and Mrs. John A, Brown of Cupertino. They plan on taking life easy and enjoying our wonderful country as soon as possible. * * * Mr. and Mrs. Morris Freeman of Orange have an eye on. the future. They have invested in a bit of our community for use when they can leave the "hustle and bustle". * * * Mr. and Mrs, "Jack" Bixler and Mrs. Dorothy Thomas of San Francisco, Mrs. Bixler's sister, left Monday for a visit with another of the Crowley Pe te on Sunday. The Bixlers are so active in community affairs that everyone will have to work abit harder toreplace them while they are gone. Mr. Bixler has just been named to the livestock committee of the Western Fairs Assn. and Mrs. Bixler is chairman for the grange public partv which is coming up Sunday June 9 at 1:30 p.m. ye Mrs, Willis Perry is visiting her daughter, Mrs. Andy Meuller. in Trinity county. The Meullers live on Ruth Lake in the_ heart of Trinity fishing country.
Mrs. Perry and Mrs. Mueller are both avid fishermen (women) so there will surely be some nice trout dinners for a while. 5 * * * Mr. and Mrs. Lloyd G. McIntire have returned home to Rough and Ready. The McIntires lived in Rough and Ready. until about. 12 years ago. It is for keeps this time. They have purchased a home here. * kK O* Mrs. Jim West and 14 months old Brenda Louise West and grandmother, Mrs. Mable Geer of Grass Valley, left last Tuesday for Junction City, Oregon to visit relative. Jim and his friend, Marshall Gobel will try to"keep the home fires burning” for a few days. * * All sensible sheep breeders have lambs in December and January. No so our strictly amateur venture. We have anew _ baby born June 1. Mr. Bixler says this is the newest thing in progressive sheep breeding. This must prove that our "pets" are progressive, We will probably name the newborn "Bonus", Save June 29 for the Chamber of Commerce "Old Fashioned Dance” at the Community Hall at 8 p.m. There will be broom dances and a live chicken raffle, and lots of other things that were done in days past in this same old hall, promises Chairman Lucille McCrea. She is arranging for some live music and some "canned" so that you may have your choice of the old melodies.
