Personal license
plates available
for motorcycles
Motorcycle owners can do
their bit for California's ecology by ordering personalized
license plates for their twowheelers, Department of Motor
Vehicles Manager Ray Hodge _
at Grass Valley said today.
"The law, which specifies
passenger vehicles, has been
interpreted to include motorcycles," he declared, "and the
Garr ccttonal Industries plant is
e to turn out the smaller
license plates just as hadily as
the larger ones, Motorcycles
are, of course, equipped with
only one 1x4 inch plate displayed at the rear." Orders are
being taken for delivery.
Hodge added that pickup trucks
which don't carry commercial
loads are eligible for passenger
plates, and they, too, qualify
for customized license plates,
bearing the owner's choice of
letter, or letters and numbers,
The same rules apply as for
regular passenger vehicle’
plates, he added: The vehicle
owner selects from two to six
letters and numbers which don't
form oa misleading or indecent
expression, aren't in conflict
with established license plate
series, and don't duplicate
unique combinations already assigned to others,
A $25° application fee is
charged, and $10 a year is added
to the registration renewal-fee,
All the money after costs goes
to help the ecology -the bulk
of it. to combat air pollution,
Personalized license plate
(PLP) orders are averaging 175
a day and more than 30,000
have been shipped out. Some
$500,000, after expenses, has
been deposited in the Environment Protection Fund,
