Local agencies receive
beverage license fees
The city of Nevada City has
received $3,303 as its six-month
share of the special fees paid
by holders of alcoholic beverage licenses, and Grass Valley
received $8,006,
The payment was made by the
state's department of alcoholic
beverage control which allocates
90 per cent of all license fee
money back to individual cities
and counties where it is used to
~ Offset the costs of police and
fire protection, schools, highways, hospitals and other government services. The remaining 10 per cent goes into the
state's general fund where it is
used for similar purposes.
The most recent payment was
for the six-month period ending
Feb. 28, 1969. Nevada county
as a whole, including the unincorporated area, received $22,785 for the period. :
A psckage store beer and
wine license costs the owner
$37 with a yearly renewal fee
of $12, A general on-sale tavern license costs $6,580 originally, with an annual renewal
fee of $580, while a beer and
wine only tavern license costs
$234, renewable yearly for $84,
According to Geo. W. Ososke,
executive vice president of the
California Brewers Assn., local
governments throughout the
state as a whole received $7,720,904 for the latest period
which, coupled with the $4,564,676 received for the period ending August 31, 1968, makes an
annual total of $12,285,580.
One fatal accident in
area during weekend
One fatal motorcycle accident
near Downieville and two
accidents in the Golden Empire
kept the California Highway Patrol busy over the three-day
Memorial holiday weekend.
Marie Jeannie Norton, 48, was
injured at 8:50 a.m, Friday when
her motorcycle fell as she was
driving along a county road near
Downieville.
‘ .Her husband was driving
another cycle behind her. Mrs.
Norton was taken to the Sacramento Medical Center by the
Sierra county ambulance. She
died the next morning.
The accident remains under
investigation, The Nortons have
a summer home in the foothills
and live in Texas.
Yvonne Orlene Staudenraus,
38, Yuba City in her two door
sedan collided with a four-door
sedan Sunday evening at the entrance to Rough and Ready. The
four-door sedan was driven by
Maciel Filer, 53, of Rough and
Ready.
Mrs. Filer was westbound and
started to turn left into the Rough
and Ready Market. Her car and
Mrs, Staudenraus' eastbound car
collided. Both received moderate damage.
Mrs. Filer was cited for making an unsafe left turn. :
Steven John Brazis, 22, San
Jose, failed to negotiate a left
curve on Combie. Road early
Sunday morning, his convertible
wernt out of control, skidded
across’ the roadway and upset
in a field,
A CHP officer booked Brazis
into the county jail on a charge
of being drunk in a public place.
His convertible was listed as
having major damage.
Harley Laverne Husted Jr.,
$4, El Sobrante was stopped by
a highway patrolman for not having a license plate on the front
of his car. Husted was charged
with driving with a suspended
license. He was :topped one mile
north of Wolf Road on Hwy. 49
just before noon Saturday.

The Nevada County Historical Society is making plans for
its annual "Citizen of the Year"
dinner, which will honor Philip
Personeni, Sr. .
Personeni has been aresident
of Nevada county since his arrival from Italy at the age of 10
with the exception of a year
spent as a miner at the Hilltop
Mine at Battle Mountain, Nev.
The committee chose Personeni as this year's "Citizen
of the Year" because of "his
many contributions to the community as well as his willingness to help his fellow citizens
and especially, the boys and
girls of the area."
